Daft question but what the hell do you do with a top and tail bowl?

As the title says really! Bought a bath set months ago which included a top and tail bowl, at the time I thought it would be handy but having just taken the set out of the plastic I've realised I literally don't have the first clue what you do with it? Use it in the bath? On it's own? Help!

It's handy now as a night time sick bowl!

Sweet if I had washed DD anything like that much as a little baby her eczema would have been agonising. Babies don't really sweat much as they don't move much so I've never understood the need to wash them even once a day, let alone twice.

Use it to put warm water in and wipe down your skirting boards.

Antoinette we didn't bath ds daily to begin with. When he wakes up his eyes are normally gunked with sleep and chin has dried up dribble. He needs a face wash daily. It also washed off his oil that I have put on him the night before for baby massage/cradle cap.

Many moons ago mums were told that if they should 'top' wash face, round baby's ears and neck and their hands every morning if they did not have a bath. They were 'tailed' every time their nappy was changed. So top and tail bowls were often used. Baby wipes are relatively new before that people who didn't want to use water at a nappy change used baby lotion and cotton wool or loo roll.

DH uses our old one for storing screws in.

In response to the "do people use wiped on the face" - I always just used a flannel, dipped in soapy water in my old takeaway carton and washed the face first , rinsed then washed the bum. I never did understand the need for faffing with cotton wool ?!

I used ours to fill the baby bath with.

How much is Mothercare and others making out of this?

I did use mine to start with, but it was so annoying that we just used baby wipes...far easier!

Mikkii · 04/01/2014 09:52

Ours was used to store bath toys until DH threw it out.

MavisDee · 04/01/2014 09:59

Wow I'm so glad, read the title and thought 'god I never used mine, must be a neglectful mum' - phew!

Soon realised a daily bath with the bedtime routine and a quick wipe when she needed it always kept my dd clean enough! And in the early days when you don't want to bath you can just use a bowl, such a money spinning con!!
