Pregnancy

Would anyone be around to hold my hand this evening please?

I have an eight week scan booked for late this afternoon.

I am really scared of the outcome.

It is my sixth pregnancy without a baby so far.

It has got to the point now where DH and I don't tell anyone I'm pregnant, as it is just too hard to them tell them I've lost another one, so we don't have any RL support.

That's great news. I'm sure you'll find it difficult to relax for the rest of your pregnancy given what happened the first time. That must have left you with unimaginable grief. Do you feel able to tell a friend or trusted family member? Someone who would understand you remaining cautious and who would allow you to talk through the uncertainties? DH probably has a lot of the same thoughts as you do here. Thinking of you as I remember your last thread amd I am sending you all of my best wishes.

Sending you cyber hugs and best wishes. I had seven MC before my two DC and know how being PG can turn into a depressing sense of miserable anticipation, rather than a time of hope.

I am sure you have already been advised by your consultant to buy 'baby' (low dose) aspirin from pharmacy and use for at least first 20 weeks? We did this on consultants advice even though the clotting tests came back clear, and I'm convinced that's what made the difference and keep me PG. pls speak to your consultant or GP if you've not been advised to do the same to see if its a good idea for you.

Awww.. that's wonderful news! I love hearing stories like these! Have had a few losses of my own in mid to late first trimester so I totally understand the fear at that first scan. I was in disbelief with this one too and am now 28 weeks Smile

If you're measuring correctly with a heartbeat at 8 weeks the odds of loss are so so low now, just a few percent at most - 8 weeks is a bit of a milestone. But I bet you already know that!!

Thanks for all the good wishes

Squiffy thanks for your post about the aspirin- I'm not taking it this time as the consultant said no need until week 12, but to be honest I didn't understand why they said that, it didn't seem to make sense to me.

I am on clexane but that does not cross the placenta so offers no protection for the baby.

My 5 month loss was due to ischemia so there might well be an underlying clotting issue...

I have been worrying about not taking it, to be honest, so I started again today after reading your post.

My consultant felt that the risks of taking it were so low as to be negligible and I think she told most of her patients to take it. But do please check Monday with your own consultant in case they have any specific concerns about you taking it (if their only concern is 'its not necessary' I'd be tempted to ignore).

I know how awful a time it is especially the weeks between now and week 13. Not that it ever really goes - I bought a Doppler on amazon and used it half a dozen times a day for weeks and weeks. Lots of sympathy and hugs from me on this one. X

My mum had a clotting issue with the last 4 she lost.
they put her on the aspirin too and that seemed to have helped with the last of her kids that she had.
I think its called aps or something like that.

OP, I'm not sure if it's recommended to take aspirin on top of clexane & if there are any additional benefits/risks - so I wouldn't start taking it till you've had consultant opinion.

I've had miscarriages, including a molar pregnancy, premature births, PE, HELLP & clotting issues.

My last pregnancy was going to be my last, irrespective of the outcome, as I couldn't face any more. DD is now on my lap. It was a relatively easy pregnancy physically, but psychologically it was hellish & a real struggle. I just felt like I was waiting for something awful to happen.

I really hope things go well for you this pregnancy - am crossing everything for you & sending positive vibes.

Huge congratulations on the positive scan outcome. great news.

From my research:
Aspirin
SIRM: More recent analysis has shown that the use of heparin alone is just as effective as combining it with aspirin. Accordingly, we no longer prescribe aspirin.
haveababy.com/infertility-education/causes-of-infertility/immune-factors/163.html
www.ivfauthority.com/2009/06/unexplained-infertility-and-ivf-failure.html
Often people are told to stop aspirin prior to ER because it increases a risk of bleeding which can lead to complications and more inflammation. However, just stopping the aspirin leads to a huge surge in inflammation:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11022121
There are some studies that show that even baby aspirin (as a NSAID) increases m/c risk by 400%.
www.bmj.com/content/327/7411/368.full
So if there is a blood clotting problem, it's better to take just heparin/lovenox. For inflammation, fish oil, vitamin E and prednisone work better.

Taken from this website

Clexane injection contains the active ingredient enoxaparin, which is a type of medicine called a low molecular weight heparin

I plan on stopping my aspirin, as soon as I start my heparin injections in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the good wishes, ladies. My scan was fine. I am relieved but still can't quite believe it. I went in there and the dr started with the pleasantries and I said "I really don't think this will good news as it went exactly the same way as last time" and thankfully she proceeded straight to the scan and I saw a teeny tiny heartbeat. Because of my history (and to reassure me) they are repeating the scan in 10 days.

BTW, I am on low dose aspirin - it's standard at my clinic after egg collection. That's an interesting study about it increasing mc risk, although I note that the participant numbers were very low. Fingers crossed it won't affect me.
