Sodding UTI!!! Advice please!

I got tested for a UTI yesterday (dropped in a sample because I can't - erm - perform on demand lately!) The doctor said he'd call me if there was a problem, and I've had no phone call so assumed all was okay.

Since then my symptoms have really kicked up a notch (constantly sore lower abdomen, weeing for England, some relief when I drink cold water)

Anyway - bottom line is that I have an appointment booked on Friday with the GP for some other preg stuff and I really don't want to have to go to out of hours tonight. Can it wait until Friday? I'm not in a huge amount of pain or anything, just uncomfortable. If my symptoms don't worsen, is it fine to leave it to Friday?

Thanks in advance!

don't wait. i had this problem over a weekend. I thought it can wait. then i found a bit of blood and thought perhaps not, so rang out of hours gp. They got me tested straight away (a dip test is all it needs) and on the antibiotics.

dont want to worry you but a uti is kinda the best thing it could be if that makes sense?

Don't wait. A UTI, untreated, can lead to early labour. I don't was to scare you but better safe than sorry.

Okay, thank you ladies, will give the out of hours a call!

Keep drinking! It will help ease it and flush it out and don't forget the cranberry juice.

The last time I left a UTI untreated it turned into nephritis and a 5 day hospital stay so best get it checked out ASAP.

I wish I really hadn't bothered. That was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. My anxiety is through the roof.

I went in to the out of hours GP. He just stared at me as I told him, and then stared at me some more and asked me if there was anything else I wanted to say. I said no? He said are you sure? I said yes!

I took a urine sample with me, he found high amount of sugar and some white blood cells. I'm not diabetic, so this is worrying. He felt my tummy and on the side where my uterus/bladder is, it's really sensitive.

He then calls my hospital saying I need an urgent scan because I've got an abruption? They say no and to just give me antibiotics to treat an infection.

So now I just feel so anxious and confused. Happy new year for me.

Sounds like GP needs a kick up the arse. Could you not call MW this morning and ask for advice? Some GPs are unbelievably rude and blasé about things and if I ever feel uncomfortable then I'll always get a 2nd opinion.

HowAboutNo · 01/01/2014 10:19

I know, he just seemed to go for the worst case scenario and then after talking to someone at the hospital, they talked him down and said it was just likely to be an infection. The sugar in the urine is something I'll have to take up with the midwife but her phone is off today so I guess it can wait until tomorrow!

did you get the antibiotics needed?

HowAboutNo · 01/01/2014 11:15

Yep I've got them, but all my symptoms have gone today so that's strange. He said there was only a slight rise in my white blood cells so it's all a bit weird. Going to take them, and I'll call my midwife tomorrow.

I got these a lot during pregnancy. Even once you get it cleared drink cranberry, not from the supermarket but the pure sugar free stuff. Health dhs stock it. It's about ten pound but worth it x

Health shops

The white blood cells can be due to a UTI so I've been told in the past. As for the random exit of the symptoms, I normally get a couple of really horrendous hours and then it drops off. Unfortunately doesn't necessarily mean the infections gone which is why they bang on about taking the whole course of antibiotics.

Sometimes the best thing to do is have a good cry and find someone for a hug. It's a horrible horrible thing. Good luck.
