Reduced movement...

Hi ladies,

So around two weeks ago I felt baby's movements were reduced so went to the day assessment to get it checked out they monitored me and baby decided to show me up by doing like 20 kicks in 10 seconds! However, they found her heartbeat was slightly tachycardic at the beginning and not very active during the rest. The doctor said he was not entirely happy with the readings but the midwife ensured his views were soon changed (she had made me feel like a piece of dirt on her shoe the entire time I was there and was quite obvious she could not wait to get rid of me) but the doctor arranged a growth scan for me anyhow for the following day. I went and everything was fine with baby and she was in fact measuring 5 days ahead.

However, I haven't felt her much at all today. She's not an overly active baby as it is but she does have a usual pattern and will give me a few kicks if I massage my belly, but today, nothing! I don't want to go to hospital again for them to act like I'm an overreacting maniac but I know I would never forgive myself if there was something wrong with bump.

Currently monitoring kicks now by lying on my left side. What would you do? We have one of the NHS heart dopplers and can hear her heart just fine, the midwife did a short demonstration on how to determine mine from hers. I know many of you will say just go get checked out but it is unbelievable how awkward and uncomfortable they can make you feel!

With all this said, baby has moved a few times just not like her usual self. Could she just be a sleepy baby today? Also had bloods done last week phone call yesterday my iron levels are low and need a prescription, not sure if this would be affecting it?

Hope you had a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year x

Go get checked.

Sorry you had a bad experience, hopefully that midwife won't be on duty!

But you must go, hearing the babies heartbeat alone is not enough, the drs/midwives will be able to tell more from a good trace of the baby.

Please get checked out.

tsw · 31/12/2013 16:51

Go. Ignore that midwife. Just go. Even if it gives you a decent nights sleep because you know baby is fine.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 31/12/2013 16:53

GO and get checked. Go every time you feel worried, even if every day for a week. DO NOT be put off by this midwife. If anything was to go wrong with you baby she would not be any way as bothered as you would be. Your first priority is to your baby. I hope everything is okay.

Butterytoast · 31/12/2013 16:53

Go. Who cares what they think!! This is about your baby and your health..

Stom91 · 31/12/2013 17:01

Go! I've been in 5 times for various reasons and I said to the dr sorry for wasting his time and he said never say sorry for wastin our time. He would rather his time be wasted and there be nothing wrong than for you not to go and and there be something serious that you don't catch because you didn't go in

I'm sure everything is fine op but please go and get checked. Even if it's for peace of mind xx

Mabelandrose · 31/12/2013 17:12

Do you care more about that horrible mw or your baby being alive?

Go now op!

tinselkitty · 31/12/2013 17:26

Another one who says go and get checked.

If there is something wrong (which I'm sure there's not but you never know) you'll be spending the rest of your life wishing you'd pissed a MW off and gone in rather than be 'polite' and left it.

Go in!

Doctorbrownbear · 31/12/2013 17:27

Drink an ice cold drink and eat somehing sugary, then lie on your side with your hands on your bump. Lie there for a while to see if baby moves. You could also try a bath. How many weeks are you as it is easy for baby to turn so you can't feel as much movement earlier on. If you still don't feel any movement get checked. I went today after not feeling movement, as soon as I got there she moved so much my belly was squirming and produced a perfect trace. However I think it is better to be safe than.sorry.if you really are still concerned after trying the usual.

Norem · 31/12/2013 17:41

Go and get checked please, as others have said that midwife will not be there. Reduced movement may be a sigh that baby needs delivering tonight so please go. Am a midwife btw.

Peacenquiet2 · 31/12/2013 20:48

How did u get on op?

CLM123 · 31/12/2013 22:08

Hey ladies thank you for comments... We went, was monitored and I'm booked in to see the consultant and another scan tomorrow although everything does seem fine with baby. Back home and she's flipping and kicking away... Must be psychological ha!

Although doctor keeps stressing that reduced movements usually result in having a smaller baby and potentially more health risks etc but everything seems fine with her so far just got to be more aware and want to monitor me regularly which worries me slightly. Thankfully, this one was much kinder and said if it ever happened again to come back in immediately.

I am 30 + 3 weeks, just wondering if anyone else has similar experiences? Was wondering maybe could she be kicking towards my back making me not feel it? Just doesn't seem to be an explanation for it which is irritating. (One of those that likes a definite answer for everything lol)

Anyhow, again thank you for the replies! Happy new year ladies xo

Any changes should always be checked. If Baby is kicking less or more than usual.

In my case the Baby would not respond to the usual stimuli and I went in. Midwife told me off for being scared HmmAngry and then when it later transpired that things were right she threw the trace away. Luckily the Baby held on and another midwife was much more on the ball and got me in early the next day for another scan prior to my blood tests. Thankfully the sonographer was also very good and people dealt with my worry much nicer. Baby was born by EMCS weighing 6lbs 12.5oz. He is 12 year and doing fine Smile. Without that second midwife I would have him now.

Baby number 2 and I was scanned weekly at the end to make sure all went well that time.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 01/01/2014 14:33

weren't right

Boobybeau · 01/01/2014 14:49

Always follow your gut instinct, there's so much they don't know or can't explain about pregnancy but a mothers instinct is usually a good indicator and should be listened to. If you feel that something isn't quite right then you keep pushing for help until you're satisfied.
On the other hand,
My dc1 was VERY active in pregnancy, he kicked all the time but he then had major health problems at birth where as dc2 was much calmer though the pregnancy and was born fit and healthy and is a little fire cracker so I guess if your baby doesn't tend to wriggle or kick much that's not an indication of any problems nessisarily.
I hope they are kind to you and you have youind put at rest with the scan.

jen2014 · 01/01/2014 15:22

At 30 weeks you should be feeling easily identified movements whichever way baby is facing. They wouldn't book you in with the consultant if they didn't think you have a slightly justified cause to be concerned.
BUT even if next scan is ok and consultant is happy then in 2 weeks time it happens again... Still go back in once again. I know you feel like an idiot when everything turns out to be fine, (I kept having unexplained recurrent bleeds in 2nd pregnancy so felt the same) but they are the experts not us. We're not expected to self-diagnose so all you can do is seek medical advice. Good luck Smile

fluffandnonsense · 01/01/2014 16:22

How did your scan go OP? I'm 35 weeks with DC 3 and have been up to MAU with RFM twice now. Both times it's been fine but I understand your anxiety about wasting time. I just feel like I'm paranoid but tbh the other two never gave me these worries. This one is either active or annoyingly quiet so I never seem to have a handle on her movements.
