I feel rotten, caved in after 39 weeks of abstaining had the most amazing runny eggs on toast for breakfast...

Kept in the fridge, lion stamped, well within use by date yet i now have this horrid feeling i could make my baby poorly.

Am i a terrible person? Waaahhhhhh Confused

I've been eating runny eggs from day one- as long as lion stamped and in date I haven't had any worries. Only time I didn't eat them was when on honeymoon in Maldives as didn't know their origin :-)

37 weeks here and I've had runny eggs all the way through. Don't worry! If you're ok the baby is ok.

lion stamped means the hen has been vaccinated against salmonella and that extremely high standards of hygiene are in place in the packing station - low risk nowadays (thanks to "Eggwina")

The risk is salmonella, do you know of anyone who ever had salmonella poisoning from eating runny eggs? Me neither, last major salmonella outbreak was linked to chocolate about 10 years ago iirc. You'll be fine.

My midwife told me the nhs are probably going to change advice to say its fine to eat runny eggs if they are lion stamped and in date so I wouldn't worry.

Plateofcrumbs · 31/12/2013 08:53

The risk is from salmonella and if you'd had salmonella poisoning you'd definitely know about it!!

I plan to buy some nice fresh eggs to make New Year's Day hangover breakfast. Obviously no hangover for me but that doesn't mean I can't indulge in the brekkie!

Julietee · 31/12/2013 09:40

I eat them every day. You're fine!

Also salmonella will make YOU very poorly. It won't harm your baby.
