Ayrshire maternity unit - what do I need?

Have packed my hospital bag tonight (about time since im 37+3!) and pretty sure I have everything I need for me however packing stuff for baby is way more complicated than I expected! Got plenty of sleep suits, vests etc but do I need to take nappies and wipes or do they provide some? Feel a bit daft calling the midwife/hospital just to ask and I'm the first of my friends to have a baby (and its my first) so don't know anyone that will know either. Anyone here know?

Don't know about ayrshire but definitely take nappies.
If you are going to take wipes then make sure they are fragrance free/ sensitive ones. You may find they strongly encourage you to use cotton wool and water at first though. They will probably provide cotton wool.

Good luck.

Mines were born in the old unit at the central but even then you had to take your own nappies unless you wanted to use terries. As cas says they should have cotton wool and recommend using that rather than wipes even the sensitive ones as they can damage the babies skin.

Do you have things like breast pads for yourself, and you will need way more maternity pads than you think, too.

Thanks ladies, will make sure I take a pack with me along with some cotton wool (I have a thing about cotton wool and can only use certain types as I find most really wirey and horrible to touch)

Have 2 packs of maternity pads, know I will be in for about 4 days as I'm diabetic, along with another at home that hubby can bring in if I need them but totally forgot about breast pads, have now packed them!

Take absolutely everything you might possibly need. The post-natal ward I stayed on after having DD1 nine years ago provided nothing.

op; being diabetic doesnt mean you need to be in a long time, unless its early induction. granted my induction took a long time, but we were out the next day like anyone else. the only thing that would keep you in longer is if your control is poor and you end up with hypoglycaemic and/or jaundiced baby as a result.
