No movement for the 3rd time but last time was made to feel like a time waster

I'm 35+3 and have had no movements from baby all morning. I've been into maternity ward twice before to get checked out. The first time was about 29 weeks, they were lovely and told me not to worry about coming back if it happened again.
I went in at 32/33 weeks a couple of weeks ago because of reduced movement and had an ultrasound the next day. The baby was fine, measurements were one week ahead, fluid was fine etc but by this point I'd felt no movement for almost 3 days and the baby wasn't moving much on the scan or trace either. The sonographer made me feel like a time waster and the midwife afterwards said 'there's nothing to worry about, the baby is fine' I said I still could feel no movement she said to me 'it's normal for movements to slow down as they get bigger, what else can we do though we've given you a scan' and discharged me.
I haven't felt any movement this morning but I'm worried they think I'm just wasting their time.

Go. Just go. Please.

Slh122 · 29/12/2013 10:50

I've rang up and have been told to lie on my side for 2 hours after having a cold drink. Have been lying on my side this morning but they said to give it longer.

I hope you are on your way to that maternity ward, much better to go even if false alarm.

Oh cross posted, glad you phoned them, but to be honest I would still go now. They are not going to turn you away and you need reassurance.

Is there anyone who can take you?

Slh122 · 29/12/2013 10:54

DP is able to take me.
In literally the last 30 seconds I've felt something but not sure if it's baby or not. Confused
I think I'll go in anyway just to be on the safe side.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/12/2013 10:58

Good luck x it's NEVER a waste of time. Ever!!

onedogandababy · 29/12/2013 11:03

They are being out of order, I mentioned to the midwife that mine has busy days and then quieter ones and she really had a go (a gentle one mind) about me not getting it checked.

At your stage, if things start not working so well inside, s/he will do fine outside you.

Go and get checked, chances are you'll see a different midwife.

Mabelandrose · 29/12/2013 11:10

Get checked out. Don't wait. You are the one who would have to live with it if something bad happened. I wouldn't wait the 2 hours either. Hope everything is ok

Shellywelly1973 · 29/12/2013 16:05

Hi Op.

Did you go in?

Hope everything is ok...x

fryingpantoface · 29/12/2013 17:46

How did it go?

notapizzaeater · 29/12/2013 17:48

Hope you've been and are reassured.

RandomMess · 29/12/2013 17:50

Hope all is well

louise182 · 29/12/2013 18:22

Ive been made to feel like a time waster for the same reason, but I'm not arsed! My baby comes first Smile make sure you go if you feel the need!

Slh122 · 29/12/2013 19:04

Hi, sorry I've only just got round to updating!
Went in and baby was fine. The midwife I saw gave contradicting advice though - she asked why I left it 2 hours, I said I was told that on the phone. She then said to call up immediately if I have any concerns but only after having an ice cold drink and lying on my side Confused

Glad all is well, i think you should accept the first part of her advice, but hopefully you won't need to again!

HomeHypno · 29/12/2013 19:39

The midwife who said there is nothing they can do when you have already had a scan was giving very bad advice - even if that scan was fine problems may still appear later. She obviously doesn't have quite up-to-date knowledge. Although most calls about reduced movements are completely false alarms doctors are taking them more seriously now, especially if it keeps happening in short succession. In my hospital you get scanned after three reports of no movements, regardless of whether you have had one previously or not.

PenguinsDontEatStollen · 29/12/2013 20:01

I agree you should always go in if concerned. No way worth risking anything.

What I would say though is that it might be worth tracking your baby's movements for a few days. Many babies, especially towards the end, develop a pattern of when they are active. For example, I used to know that mine tended to be quite still in the late afternoon but manic around bed time. Not that this should ever, ever override any concerns you have, but it might help you feel more comfortable in what is normal and what's not.

Also, yes, if worried about movement drink a big glass of iced water (and eat some ice cream if you fancy it). A few loud claps (most easily done by someone else as you are at an awkward angle!) also often wake a sleeping baby. I would also say don't just try lying on your side too. I have an anterior placenta and often get the most obvious movements lying on my back for some reason (this is no. 3, don't remember if that was true with the others).

RandomMess · 29/12/2013 20:17

I think if you drink iced water and then lay down you should start feeling movements fairly quickly rather than leaving it two hours, I wonder if that is what the midwife meant.

Romily · 29/12/2013 20:20

I would let them grumble and go and get my baby checked. Better to be safe than sorry.
