Morning everyone Smile

Me and my husband are planning on going shopping today to look at cots, Moses baskets and nursery furniture etc, and then we're off to B&Q to choose the colour scheme and buy the paint!! OMG I'm so excited!!!

But, I'm only 27+2 - is this too early??

Me and my DH have had a horrible pregnancy so far and up until a few weeks ago we refused to let ourselves get excited about the baby because we were so worried something was going to go wrong. But that feeling has passed now and I want to embrace the excitement!! We haven't bought anything for the baby yet and this feels like a good place to start Smile

At what stage did you start decorating??

Well you don't really need a fully functioning nursery until 6 months. But the last thing you want to be doing is decorating with a newborn. So I think now is a fab time to paint and start putting things together. You can always do all the finishing touches once your lo is home safely.

We are starting to get our nursery together (26 weeks). Found a good deal on a furniture set on eBay so snapped it up, now we're looking for the blinds and paint really should have painted before getting furniture! we also wanted to start putting bits away rather than having them lying about (muslins, a few vests, knitted bits from the DGMs)!

Being realistic, if the worst happened at this stage, it's going to be frigging awful and a few bits of furniture will make very little difference.

In the meantime it's just lovely to go & stand in the nursery, give his/her fluffy toy a squeeze and imagine our baby coming home Smile

I think it's a great time

We did our about 6 months

Like others have said you don't want to be decorating with a newborn

We started decorating ours when I was about 25/26 weeks (end of October) and finished everything by beginning of December. It was nice to be able to pack the stuff that I had been given/bought away rather than just have it in a big pile in room.

Im only 17 weeks and I've already picked my nursery furniture and ordered it but i am ridiculously organised to the point it drives my Dh insane. We aren't going to think about decorating until the spring though and all my purchases are on my john Lewis nursery list so can be delivered whenever we want them. This has really helped us with the finances to as we've been able to buy bits each month. Enjoy your shopping it's such an exciting time x x

comfyonesie2 · 29/12/2013 11:42

I think it's good to start about that stage (wish we had!) then you can put all the baby paraphernalia in there out of the way as and when you buy it (and not all over the house so it looks a complete tip like we do!!!!)

I went away for a night when I was 22/23 weeks and when I came home my parents has decorated our nursery as a surprise. It was amazing Grin

Go for it!

I am planning on getting the nursery ready several months early so the associated chemicals in paints and glues have plenty of time to disperse.

Plus it is fun :)

Sammi1986 · 29/12/2013 14:19

I'm 23w and have pretty much all of the big stuff as I have been getting a few bits second hand as we go along.
We got some vouchers for Christmas so did our first proper shopping trip this morning! Go for it

Shellywelly1973 · 29/12/2013 14:54

I think your at the perfect stage to get the nursery ready.

I panicked this morning as I'm almost 36 weeks with absolutely nothing ready! I've had 2 at 37 weeks!!

Need to clear my bedroom today...I'm massive, very swollen, pop....oh how I wish I'd done this 10 weeks ago!

Enjoy getting ready for your new baby. :-D

Shellywelly1973 · 29/12/2013 14:55

Pop?! Pgp!!

Then we went to B&Q and got the paint for the walls and a Winnie The Pooh border Smile We have got WTP transfers for the walls too Smile

I'm now off to eBay to look for WTP curtains, light shades, bedding etc etc.

Ah lovely. We did ours in advance too so don't worry. You will be enjoying your baby too much to do it then. Nice to look at it and enjoy it.

I would recommend getting yourself a label maker and storage boxes to label presents as they come in 3-6 months etc, then you can exchange duplicates and list things you need to buy. We bought a seven drawer chest and separate vests, gro's, grobags etc

Also we have a pretty notice board in the baby room for gp letters, list of who to send thank you cards etc.

I am just after packing the clothes our lad is finished with, in sandwich bags labelled. Also the extra large ottoman from argos is fantastic for storing baby gym etc, reducing clutter when you need to.

Very handy to have a chair for yourself and few magazines etc.

So exciting for you, Flowers

We did ours about 30 weeks so no I don't think it is too early. I know that DD will not sleep in there right away but with my first I used to let her kick in her cot and take naps to get used to her room and still dressed and changed her in there.
