Is diabetic chocolate ok?

I'm 39 was/4 days, they want me to go into the labour ward New Year's Day for induction ( first day of week 40). New hops policy. I want to give birth in the birthing centre so am desperate to avoid this. Have tried sex, walking, even a hot curry to help start things naturally, but nothing. I wondered if diabetic choc was safe in pregnancy because it agitates my stomach and has a laxative effect - much the same as a curry's supposed to. It always helped kick start my period if I was late and feeling bloated. Thought it may help start labour. If anyone knows please advise. I've not seen any warning on the back re; pregnant women.

Why do they want to induce you? Have they discussed the risks and benefits with you? And is this your first baby?

I don't think triggering the runs with horrible chocolate is the way to go, TBH.

Induction at 40+0 with no risk factors? Calculated in standard way (ie from first day of last period)? hat sounds an insane policy and I'd be refusing to go anywhere near hospital unless in established labour by that point. Remember it is your body and your choice, and the risks of induction are considerably higher than the risks of letting you be until at least 41 weeks if not later!

There's been a study in America that found there to be a higher risk of stillbirths to women 40 and over due to placenta failure. My hospital has taken this new policy on. Although my obstetrician said it was scare mongering. I asked for a scan (had it 24th Dec) to check, the placenta was fine and blood flow to baby was good, but the midwives are determined to get me induced. They said they are just doing their job and the obsteatrician is 'old school' and going against policy. My midwife has been pushing for induction since week 38! I really don't want to go into he labour ward which is why I'm trying to kick start labour before then.

I'm sure diabetic chocolate is fine (if nasty), but non-diabetic dark chocolate (70% and above) is much nicer!
Also, I don't know if you're actually diabetic, but I've read that the artificial sweeteners in diabetic sweets actually affect the insulin response just as much as actual sugar, thus making the whole thing rather pointless.

nobody can force you to be induced. if the risk of stillbirth is elevated (which it has found to be in women over 40) you should be OFFERED induction but it is your choice. if you choose not to be induced then you should be offered regular foetal monitoring instead. dont be bullied.

btw i have type 1 diabetes and wouldnt touch diabetic chocolate (i eat normal chocolate and like any other food, take insulin when i eat it). diabetic chocolate is filth & most diabetes organisations agree. dont feel bullied and eat something dreadful to try and push you into labour! stand your ground, demand monitoring and dont be bullied.
