Thrust - using caneston pessaries & cream whilst pg?

Hi, i am 13 weeks pg and in thrush hell. Made worse by all the rubbish sweet yummy food in the run up to Xmas!

I really wanted to avoid using a fungicide ... As i am terrified it will affect the baby (have had a mc previously so am super paranoid) but it is driving me crazy and is so uncomfortable :-(

I've heard u can use pessaries but i am worried about the effects of the chemicals on the unborn baby.

Any opinions or advice?
thanks.

they are safe to use in pregnancy. You may wish to insert a pessary with your fingers rather than the applicator though.

Hi op, been some time since I was in your shoes but can remember the itch. I'd be inclined to give NHS a call and apply something chilled to my bits in the meantime. It's horrid isn't it.

I've had thrush through pregnancy and ended up seeing someone. Was given canes tan but told to put round the outside and not "up". And def not any tablets.

I was prescribed pessaries and cream throughout my second pregnancy last year by my GP.

My doc has been prescribing repeats of 4x pessary & cream for the dreaded thrush. Taken this twice with current pg (35w now) and at least once in last pg. standard advice here is pessary and topical use is find but don't take the pill.

Try and treat it. It's uncomfortable in the extreme. Poor you!

I have also been suffering, horrible isn't it. The pessaries and cream don't work that well for me so I've been using multi-gyn 5 day treatment from boots. Just a gel inserted every night and it seems to be working. Can use it weekly as a preventative too.

Hope you get some relief soon and can enjoy Xmas x

Thanks everyone. Does anyone know if there are any possible problems with using it? Ultimately it is a fungicide ... I don't like the idea of exposing the baby to that....

You aren't exposing the baby to it really as you have a plug and the baby is safe inside its waters. I've used the pessery twice this pregnancy, and it's far better than the risks of infections to the baby by leaving it untreated.

plus if you don't treat it and you still have it during the birth then the baby can get thrush from you. www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1101.aspx?CategoryID=54

Thank u ladies. I really appreciate your advice. I just spoke to the Dr who said caneston has been well used in pregnancy and hasn't been seen to cause a problem so i guess i just bite the bullet and hope for the best. Merry Xmas all!

tomkat thank you so much for your recommendation.. I am 21 weeks and have had 2 treatments of canesten which works initially but the thrush keeps coming back.I have just started on multigyn as I thought (or my midwife said) I would just have to live with it Sad so hopefully this will work. I hadn't heard of it until this thread Smile
