Numb fingers!

Not sure if this is pregnancy related or not, has anyone else experienced this? My little finger mostly but sometimes other fingers keep going numb, moving up on to my arm now.

Anyone have any tips for getting rid of it? It's bloody annoying!

It might be carpal tunnel syndrome - I've been suffering from it since I've been pregnant, particularly at night. You can buy splints that keep your hand in the right position and stop your fingers going numb. Boots have them I think but you can get them cheaper elsewhere - I got mine in a funny little shop that sells mobility aids and things. Might be worth looking online.

Another wonderful thing about pregnancy Smile

Does it happen mostly at night or when you are using your hands and star off with really bad pins and needles?

I got really bad carpal tunnel during my pregnancy - quite common apparently. I got a wrist support to wear whilst sleeping, which helps.

It went away straight after the birth of my DS 6 weeks ago

If you google acupressure points for carpal tunnel, it will show you where you can apply pressure to your hand and wrist to help relieve it.

I found that really helped mine when I was pregnant.

I got it latterly in pregnancy and it went away after 4-6 weeks. It felt weird/weak/ very mildly sore for me.

Ilovekittyelise · 22/12/2013 21:52

i had it really badly in my last pregnancy, & it persisted for quite some time afterwards. unfortunately i didnt know what it was until it was really bad. im now 34 weeks with number 2 and sleeping in my splints (when i remember) & also taking turmeric supplements which are supposed to be good for swelling. time will tell.....

If it is carpal tunnel syndrome - which it does sound like - having the baby is the most effective cure Smile. I had it really badly with DS1 and especially DS2. Both times it disappeared immediately on giving birth. Not very Interestingly I didn't suffer at all with DS3 and have only had it mildly this time around - occasional pins and needles at night at 37 weeks...

How much longer have you got to go?

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 22/12/2013 22:20

I had it too, but only at night. apparently we naturally bend our hands in when we sleep. The pins and needles kept me awake. It was horrible.
I was given splints by the NHS to wear in bed and they worked like a dream.

I would speak to your G.P/MW/Consultant. I got Carpel Tunnel Syndrome in my 4th pregnancy. Eventually got a referral to physio. They gave me the splints for both hands.

When ds was about 6 months old I was having a Pill Check when I mentioned one of the symptoms. The nurse was surprised it hadn't gone away...

I ended up having surgery on both hands to open the Carpel Tunnel. Unfortunately, my left hand is very affected & I lost a lot of muscle which has never improved. I can't feel propley. I can't feel hot or cold. I don't have any pain anymore though.
