So me being me I invested in a blood pressure monitor from argos! Well I'm doing it all,the time and everytime it's high and now I'm panicking more! I don't know if it's high coz I'm stressing about it being high!!! Aaarrgggghh help me I'm my own worst enemy!

thistle - they will do my c-section at 39 weeks. The only reason I have been signed off is because my job is quite active. I think if I did a 'desk job' as such they would probably have let me return to work and just monitored me, like they are you. I'm 26 weeks now and have no idea how I'm going to entertain myself for another 13 Hmm Smile

Have you heard of white coat hypertension. It's a jokey name for the fact that just being in a clinical setting which they find stressful sends some people's blood pressure sky high.

You could well be inducing the same effect in yourself if the readings are high for you.

Electronic bp monitors can give false readings in pre eclamptic women and shouldn't be used for ante natal care. I had severe pre eclampsia in my first pg and spent 4 weeks on a high risk antenatal ward in what I later discovered was meant to be an extremely good centre for PET care. My bp was never ever checked with an electronic monitor. And it was done a minimum of every 6 hours for those 4 weeks!

If you are really worried about your bp, go and ask the me to check it again, but don't rely on the electronic machine.

At midwife appt mine was 54/117 and then the other day it was 88/154 and no one seemed to bothered so yours sound fine I wouldn't worry x

My bp was elevated at my booking appointment an properly high at my next GP visit, I've been monitored by a midwife every 2 weeks since then and they've always used manual bp monitors.

Anything under 140/90 is considered normal in pregnancy, as far as I know.

I did buy one to measure myself but I was driving myself crazy, so it's been banished to a cupboard and it seems to have worked, my bp was within normal parameters at the last check-up!

I wouldn't trust a bought BP monitor
At 32weeks I had a little protein in my urine and my BP was raised so I was brought in for a few monitoring sessions. It didn't go down and increased and I ended up having a few hospital stays and I was put on Nifidipine (dose of 10 bd) I ended hospitalised with +++protein +++ketones. I was well medicated with a triple dose of Nifedipine to try and control my BP. Although apparently my bloods were always "normal"

I had an EMCS last week and at the start of the section my BP was above 220/110 (was too woosey to remember the exact reading)

I have now been discharged with no Nifedipine, cold turkey from 21/12/13! Midwife did her day after visit today and found my BP at 150/90 again on the high side

Anyway that's my penny's worth, don't stress over high BP and if you are worried go see your care givers, they should get u in for monitoring if your BP is high
