Help needed please! I'm five weeks and my boobs have grown and got sore and tingly. What is recommended re bras? Are they designed for later pregnancy mainly? Should I get a larger sized normal bra or go for something specific? I literally don't have a clue. Thanks!

What size are you?

Im a 36A & bought soft cotton bras from Asda £4 for 2.

I bought a 38A & 38B. That was all I needed & so lovely & comfortable.

Also when DD came I just pulled them up or down to BF.
Bloody marvellous, saved a fortune!

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 20:06

I'm 32D. Not sure what size I need now but might get measured.

If you measure tightly under your bust and then bend over 90 degrees and measure round the fullest part of your bust and post your results then we can give you an idea of what sizes to try

ilovepowerhoop · 21/12/2013 20:14

lamaDrama are you sure of your size? Where we're you measured?

LamaDrama · 21/12/2013 20:17

Ive never been measured, Im very small. I cant think I would get them in anything above an A.

HandragsNGladbags · 21/12/2013 20:22

Lama if you follow the measuring advice and post on here then we can check ;)

Just make sure you look for maternity and not nursing bras, as I always get it wrong and end up with them unclipped and boobs everywhere!

LamaDrama · 21/12/2013 20:24

Thank you, will try tomorrow Thanks

ilovepowerhoop · 21/12/2013 20:24

An A cup would mean only 1 inch difference between your under and over bust measurements which would be unlikely

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 20:28

Okay,it's 32" and 40"

Get measured and buy a bigger bra which is comfortable. Non wired is fine. As is wired provided it fits properly and isn't pressing on breast tissue (which frankly it shouldn't be even if you aren't pregnant).

Don't spend a fortune if you don't have to as your bra size is likely to increase again during your pregnancy. In particular towards the end your ribcage will probably expand. i went from being in a 32DD to a 36F via a few sizes during my pregnancy.

Don't worry about nursing bras yet, even if you plan to breastfeed. You may well need these in another size again, as your ribcage will shrink back but your boobs may balloon.

See now why I'm advising not expensive ones Grin. I thankfully have a whole drawer full of maternity and nursing bras from previous pregnancies which I am now picking and choosing from as and when they fit!

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 20:34

Excellent! Thanks, that's really helpful, I will start by buying a cheap one (perhaps the ones from Asda) and then get larger ones as needed.

Try 32FF to start with

VJONES1985 · 21/12/2013 20:36

FF? Wowzers.

HandragsNGladbags · 21/12/2013 20:37

I think that's a 32FF? So try some around that size. I wear those stretchy crop top bra things around the house. My bad boys are 36GG and I just like them slung up Grin

PenguinsDontEatStollen · 21/12/2013 20:41

Bear in mind that most people wear a bra that is far too big in the chest and far too small in the cup. A lot of people wearing a 36B should be wearing something more like a 32D or 32DD.

ilovepowerhoop · 21/12/2013 20:57

a lot of places add 4/5 inches to the back measurement and end up with a bra too big under the bust and not big enough in the cup size e.g. M&S

HandragsNGladbags · 21/12/2013 21:03

Mothercare actually have this on their measuring guide Shock ilove

nailslikeknives · 21/12/2013 22:41

I found the glamourmom bras on the NCT website really supportive, I'm DD.

sharkey1187 · 21/12/2013 23:41

V... This week I've been living in sports bras! at this early stage I'm just going to buy them in a bigger size. I prefer the ones that do up in the back rather than the cropped ones. If I can manage until after Xmas I am hoping I can stock up in the January sales. I'm only a little bigger at the moment but I just feel I need them secured to prevent any unnecessary trauma..

AnythingNotEverything · 21/12/2013 23:47

Bravado do some great crop tops which are a god send to sleep in. They're technically nursing bras but the clips are secure so you do t accidentally pop out!

I needed new bras at 8 and 28 weeks and went to bravissimo. I got two bras each time for about £25 each. Worth every penny.

Listen to the clever ladies talking about bra sizes - lots and lots of people wear the wrong size and it's truly a crime.

McPheelingUpSanta · 21/12/2013 23:48

M&S maternity/feeding bras were my lifesavers.

snowtunesgirl · 21/12/2013 23:51

Marking place to see what Lama's measurements are. Grin

Ilovekittyelise · 22/12/2013 00:12

im quite (ok very!) big boobied. i think i started first pregnancy around 34ff and finished 38gg or thereabouts. first time around i did the dreadful softcup maternity bras. this time around iv avoided that indignity. iv always used bravissimo to get well fitting supportive bra. if you go there to get fitted and say your pregnant they are very good about picking sizes that will last the longest. they dont measure, which in my experience is much better than the diabolical m&s service which invariably leaves the larger breasted woman with a back size so gigantic it would wrap around twicd to make up for pygmy cups (seriously they measured me a 38d when i was a 32f).

VJONES1985 · 22/12/2013 10:18

Right, will avoid M&S like the plague then! Don't think there's a Bravissimo near me but there is a Mothercare. So they sell brand names there?

OP posts:
ilovepowerhoop · 22/12/2013 10:32

I quite like the m&s bras, just don't get measured there.
