Hi I don't no if any body else has same blood type she said I was o negative but was rhesus negative meaning I have to have an injection at 28 weeks off an anti D.

She said not to worry and be more concerned if I have another baby as it will see baby as foreign and attack.

She said if I bleed to go straight to hospital. But then said don't worry but I kind of am lol has any body else got this rhesus negative blood type?

Can any one shed a little light x

May I also add my appointment wasn't till 4.30 and I got the impression she couldn't be bothered and was half listening to me lol so I feel totally deflated after seeing her

o negative means a type of rhesus negative.
With modern medical care it's no biggie (more people will answer more questions).
As for not having her full attention, most MWs are a little bit spaced out, I find, must be all that gas+air they're around!

I'm resus negative the main thing is to get your injection during and after pregnancy and that's been organised and has it been written on your notes?
If you have a bleed it a bump to your bump call midwife or mat assessment you may need another injection then too. I was in a car accident when I was expecting dd do needed to have an extra one but it was all fine and she's fine.
Honestly wouldn't worry think its quite common x

Wishfulmakeupping · 21/12/2013 18:33

or a bump to your bump

ilovepowerhoop · 21/12/2013 18:35

I am B negative and had anti-d injections after each birth. Also had one after a fall when pregnant with dd. No issues in either pregnancy

I am Rh neg, PG with DC3. It's no big deal- have the injection and they screen you for antibodies.

If you had an accident where there was a risk of a placental bleed, let them know and they give you another injection.

Lots of people are Rh -ve, nothing to worry about these days

MissIshbel · 21/12/2013 18:46

I'm o-neg as well and have had the first injection (it's one that goes in your hip and you have to have a wee seat after in case you go dizzy). The good thing is we have the best blood type to donate to blood banks as it can be given to anyone with any other blood and my midwife said its the one they give to sick babies :)

Essexgirlupnorth · 21/12/2013 18:52

Yes I am rhesus negative but have always know I was as my mum is too.
If you have a bleed you need to go to hospital to have anti-D as if your baby is rhesus positive and your are exposed to babies blood then you will make antibodies against it. Anti-d mops them up as it is not a problem with the first baby but if you have another rhesus positive pregnancy it can cause problems as the antibodies can attach the babies blood and make it very poorly.
I didn't have any bleeding so just had an injection at 28 and after DD was born as they tested her and she is rhesus positive. It will be written in your notes so they know to do it.

I'm o neg too. I had the anti d injection in my shoulder at 28 weeks and have to have another within 72 hours of baby being born. The midwife also said if you bleed at all to go straight up to the hospital and have another one as it can harm future babies not the one you are carrying at the moment

Hellymummy · 21/12/2013 21:30

I'm rhesus negative and totally freaked out about it but now I've found out it's very common and no big deal at all!!!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 21/12/2013 22:34

I had it at 28 weeks but didn't need it after birth, they test your babies blood group to see if you need it. If your baby is a positive blood group you have or within 72 hours.

*it

As previous posters have said, it's not much of a worry these days. I'm A- and both my DCs are A+, so I'm assuming my DH must be A+ too! I get/got the shots at 28w and after birth; and also just had one last week after falling flat on my front Blush
Might be worth finding out your partner's blood group, if he's rh- as well then there's even less to worry about!

Iwaswatchingthat · 21/12/2013 22:41

Discovered I was A negative in first pregnancy. I declined the anti D injections during pregnancy as midwife said to avoid any blood product as much as you can. Dd1 was also A negative so I did not need one after birth either.

With dd2 I had no injections during pregnancy either, but as she is A positive I had one after she was born.

I had a miscarriage too, but no anti D given. My GP said as less than 8 weeks not an issue.

I know how you feel though OP I was just sent a "the holder of this card is rhesus negative" card in the post! Not even a covering letter!! I had to ask Mr Google to help me!!!
