giving birth without a birth partner?

I'm currently 34+4 and booked In for a home birth, however my iron levels were 10.7 at 28 weeks and if they drop any lower by 36 weeks its a hospital birth for me! I'm not on iron tablets yet as they only just thought to mention this so its likely they will drop.. anyway!..
Childcare is an issue for me as both dp and myself live away from family so I would have to labour and give birth without a birth partner, can anyone share some positive experiences of this? Or perhaps just some words of encouragement!

Hi islas, I hope the lack of iron isn't taking it's toll on you too much.

Anyway, back to your post, I think the main benefit for me if I were in your situation would be that I could focus solely on what was going on with my body rather than having that extra person there possibly annoying me or not supporting me how I want them to. I'm wider in myself whether dh will step up to the mark and make a great birth partner, but we shall see! The last person I think I want there is my mum; she's been driving me mad for the lat couple of weeks, and we have no family around to help or support us; they're all at least 2 and a half hours + away!

I'm following this with interest, I'm 39 weeks next week & considering suggesting DH stays at home with our two DC for xmas if I have to go into hospital then. I'd be able to relax more if I knew they were being taken care of & having a good time rather than dumping them on extended family.

I don't remember DH doing much while I was in labour last time & felt comfortable relying on the midwives.

whenever i was a student nurse i did a placement in delivery and the lady i was with only had myself and midwife as her dh was with her other 2 dc. she was a trooper and just seem to get on with it. now that am pg myself i honestly dont think itd bother me not having the oh there when am in established labour, id be able to focus better and not have to worry about him however think am for a c section so will be glad to have him there to take my mind off the operation.
