Hi

Just wondering if someone can offer some advice about appts. My employers are being very accommodating for all my appts which is great but I had a scan last week and my employer logged it as half day sick leave as was off for most of the morning, even thou i offered to come in before the appt but was told not to. Anyway my qs is, is it correct to be logging this as sick leave? My manager wrote the reason being to attend a preg scan but I'm worried that if he starts to log every appt I have in this way it may affect my sickness level/mat pay.

Does anyone have any advice or is this normal procedure? TIA

Check your contract but you are entitled to a certain amount of reasonable paid time off for appointments. They shouldn't be logged as being "off sick".

Definitely should not be logged as sick, it is a standard antenatal appointment which you are entitled to paid time off to attend!

Thank you both, tbh I thought that and was a bit confused as to why it would be logged this way. He said that appts need to be logged with hr which is fine but I didnt think it should be marked as sick leave as I'm def entitled to paid time off in my contract. I think I will email hr for clarification and hopefully they will remove it from my record

They should remove it, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they tried to use it against you anyway.

Any actual pregnancy related sickness cannot be used for disciplinary purposes either :)

You're legally entitled to paid time off for appointments.

Do the appts need to be logged at all then? None of my previous midwife ones have been but all of a sudden this one has been, I'm guessing it's because I was off for nearly the whole morning but that was due to appt time and travel time plus waiting around at hosp. I'm happy to show them my scan letters etc for proof if need be but I just wonder if my manager is unsure of the process?! I will raise with hr as I'm unsure how to say to my manager 'eh u r wrong!' Lol

I suppose it depends on how your company works regarding logging appointments (as in whether they do or don't). They have a right to, but purely for record keeping nothing else.
Absolutely shouldn't be down as sick though! I would point it out incase pay is deducted in error.

Its probably just down to them not knowing the process, a lot of companies have no idea!Grin

Absolutely not, appts shouldn't be logged as 'sick' (contract dependant). Make sure you speak to HR & that your manager fully understands your company policy.

My manager never bothered to learn the company policy, but all it meant was that I found out company procedure & told her, to start with I didn't mind as she'd never had a pregnant employee but after a while it hacked me off that I was doing her job for her. But even then, I had a hospital appt at 9:30am that ended up lasting the entire day (DD is fine though) & that wasn't logged as sick.

Thanks for the advise, will def speak to hr as I don't want it to effect my sickness record or earnings etc. It clearly is lack of knowledge on my managers part and hr aren't partucaurly good at giving guidance! Feeling much less worried about it now that I have the facts :)
