Realistically how long was it before you were back to normal after a C/S?

Shopping, school runs, housework, laundry etc...

What sort of pain relief were you given & how long did you need to use it? If I end uo with a c/s I will most likely ff so no worry bout pain killers affecting baby.

Will be watchin this with interest shelly as im also booked for section with dc3 in 11 weeks and ile hav no choice but to get back to normal activities asap. Im hopin to be drving after 2 weeks for school run and if i cant do housework my house will fall be in a pit of despair due to dps uselessness!

I've ended up on my own. I am looking at employing some sort of mothers help or child minder as 3 dc still at home.

I was will find out in few weeks if c/s so im trying to get organised but I've no idea whst a c/s is like.

Hopefully baby will turn & I will only need to organise help for a week. Im worried about cost so don't want to end up paying someone to do something I'm able to.

I'm 3 weeks post c section and doing pretty well. First week was difficult at times with pain & restrictions on my movement but I was back to school run by week two & have been doing laundry & cleaning ok other than hoovering.
Haven't driven yet, don't feel quite up to it as not 100% yet but hoping by next week I'll be ok. Walking has been ok so long as I don't go too fast!
Carried a heavy shopping basket at the weekend which I regretted but other than that so long as I've not done too much and pushed myself I've been fine.
Painkillers were diclofenac (or something like that!!) and paracetamol, tool for first week & half but didn't feel I need them after that.
Hope this helps and good luck Smile

Also to add I've found recovery much better than I feared and easier than the birth of DS.

Shellywelly1973 · 17/12/2013 15:20

Thanks! Oh god 4 weeks of not driving! How are you managing. One of my dc school is nearly an hour away no option of walking or cabs- when I worked out cost of cabs I realised I could employ someone!

I really hope this baby turns. Im so stressed by the idea of a cs or hospital birth. I've got an appointment with the mw tomorrow but considering cancelling it as I end up in tears just thinking about it. I've never felt like this before. I actually wish I wasn't pregnant. I deeply regret having another dc. I've nothing for baby & really can't be bothered with it all. I wish it all go away...sad but true.

I had my 3rd CS 8 weeks ago and my DP could only get a few days off work. I took paracetamol but to be honest my boobs were more painful than anything. I was driving after first week, just school runs etc nothing far and I had to get my doctors permission for insurance purposes. Was pretty much back to normal after about 3 weeks. Everyone recovers at a different rate but I have been lucky all 3 times in that my recovery was really quick. I think it helps to get up and mobile as soon as possible and they encourage this in the hospital :)

Discogeek · 17/12/2013 16:17

I agree that it helps to get up and about as quickly as possible. I found it helped mentally with recovery as well as physically.
My DP didn't have any paternity leave (joys of self employment) but my DS has helped me a bit around the home, as much as a 6 year old can anyway! I've not found if too hard just had yo lower my cleanliness standards slightly!!
I'm doing ok with not driving but I don't have much need for it, school is a 10 min walk away and shops etc are walking distance plus there's good public transport where I am which helps.
So sorry you're having a rubbish time of it, fingers crossed baby turns soon and you can avoid a cs. If not good luck for a speedy recovery Smile

I had a CS with DD - unfortunately I got a pretty bad infection and my scar burst open after 7-10 days (delightful) so recovery was slow and painful. Still got twinges after 4 months!
Take all the painkillers they offer and use them!!
However, the 2 women on the ward with me marched out after 48hrs and were absolutely fine! My friend who also had a CS was pushing the dyson around again after 10 days, so it really is a game of chance!

Writerwannabe83 · 17/12/2013 20:33

My friend had a c-section and she attended a dentist appointment 3 days later Grin

FionasFatFairy · 17/12/2013 22:37

I have had 2 CS.

With the first I didn't feel ready to drive until 5 weeks after the OP, so I waited the recommended 6 weeks. Having said that, I was in hospital for 4 weeks prior to birth so coming home to a 2 year old was a bit of a shock.

With the second section, I felt worse the second day than the previous one, but then much better. The second week post CS was half term so no school run, but at week 3 I was driving again and fairly ok.

Immediately post OP I was given IV paracetamol, having gritted my teeth the first time (as I was so desperate to get home after 4 weeks of "incarceration") I wimped out and was then given morphine.
