Would you eat this whilst pregnant?

Normally on Christmas Eve DH and I have an easy dinner and normally get something like this shellfish platter. I'll be coming up to 7 months pregnant then with DC3 - would you risk eating this? As far as I can see its not raw shellfish and its all cooked? Not exactly a big problem, but I'd like to know what you think!

Yes, if it had been properly kept cool.
I ate plenty of M&S prawn sandwiches and kink prawn sweet and sour from my usual takeaway.

Having once had spectacular food poisoning from tepid prawn soup, I did avoid sea food from places I hadn't used lots before I got PG.

Depends where it came from, for shellfish I'm following a rule of 'if I didn't worry about it before I'm not worrying about it now' as the rules are around food poisoning rather than birth defects. However, not sure I would over Xmas as food poisoning then would be bad enough without being pregnant on top!

We normally have prawns on Xmas day and are still going to, but we ere going to source the prawns rather than my MIL as her defrosting and storage methods can be dubious!

If it's cooked, what's the risk?

LastOneDancing · 16/12/2013 12:56

I'd eat it.

Reputable supplier, keep it properly chilled... No probs.

I'd eat it if its been kept properly - ie ina fridge, and not left on the side fro several hours before you eat it because there isn't enought room in the fridge.
But I too operated on the "if I ate it before, I'll eat it now", with the exception of liver, normal multivits and excessive tuna/large fish, which there are other reasons for avoiding.

Yes I would, and in fact I did. I was 40 weeks (baby due 26th) and one of the few things I fancied (after so much sickness) was prawns. As a precaution dh (with his full knowledge and agreement) ate some as a test the night before, to reassure me they were fine!

Hurray! I thought it'd probably be ok but then the doubt crept in. But I'm going to tuck in and enjoy it (and onepiece I'll use your tip on my DH too ).

Thanks all.
