Sick note

I have SPD and it's got to a point where I can move but it's incredibly painful. I am having hydrotherapy as well as physio and have been to chiropractor as well but the pain is not really abating. I have been off sick a number of times now.
I wanted to take sick leave as I am in agony now. Do I go to the GP for that or the midwife.

My understanding is that gps write sick notes.

MrsShh · 16/12/2013 08:39

You poor thing :-(. I would have thought gp for sick note. But if you are towards the end of your pregnancy your employer can make you start maternity leave if you are off sick due to a pregnancy related issue. Good luck with it all x

I was you a few weeks ago - GP for sick note!

If this gives you any hope, I now have a lovely squidgy 3wo and a pain-free pelvis Smile

KirstyJC · 16/12/2013 08:41

Your GP will write it. And your employers can't make you go on Mat Leave with a pregnancy related sickness until you reach 36 weeks.

I have had SPD twice and both times it went the day they were born - hang on in there Smile

Featherbag · 16/12/2013 08:42

Your employer can only force start your mat leave it you're at or past 36 weeks, if yours are anything like my employer they'll have a go at telling you you have to start earlier, but you don't.

Thanks for the replies. I will head to the GP then. Tbh I am so fed up with feeling so crap that if it weren't for the fact that I need the money I would have gone on mat leave sooner.
For those who have had SPD does it get better after 32 weeks? The registrar I saw said and I am clinging to this hope.

Erm, no. Not for me or anyone else I know who had it I'm afraid, but it did go straight after birth!

Ask your GP about painkillers, and get some crutches if you need them, they were such a relief for me after I had stubbornly refused to use them until I was about 33 weeks!

zinher · 16/12/2013 09:25

Yikes featherbag! :( that was my only hope that it would get better after 32 weeks
I am already on cocodamol. Have physio appt today will ask about crutches. I am throwing everything at it but not getting much relief.

Ooh dear, it sounds very painful and uncomfortable!

Due to Health issues I have, my midwife said she doesn't particularly want me at work and advised I see my GP to get a sick note. I have been signed off since 10 weeks pregnant and now can't go back at all. I too was worried about forced Maternity but as has been said already, you can't be made to take it until you are 36 weeks. Do you have why annual leave left over? I have got two weeks to take so my GP has signed me off to 36 weeks, then I'm taking my 2 weeks of A/L and starting Maternity at 38 weeks.

Good luck with your Doctor Thanks

I needed a cs, and because of the SPD my consultant agreed to do it at 38 weeks instead of 39+, could you speak to someone about the possibility of early induction?
