31 week with anterior placenta and kicks

Is there anyone out here who has anterior placenta ? Kick counting is a complete nightmare, I already was three times to check out the baby and everything seems fine. But I have no pattern whatsoever, sometimes I can have the whole day of quietness , and when about to call midwifes again there are some random kicks...Sometimes there is nothing in the evening and in the morning, it absolutely drives me crazy and I have no idea if to panick or not. Midwifes are not helpful execpt saying, yes it is hard for you because of the placenta location, so no one can tell me what is normal in this situation. If dinking cold water and moving from right to the left side worked before sometimes, does not do the trick anymore ... ah and because of my acid reflux I can't have something really sweet like chocolate or orange juice ... Experiences and tips are very welcome

Yes, me! I'm nearly 31 weeks but I'm not counting kicks as that would stress me out too much. I know the anterior placenta cushions a lot of the impact so as long as I feel a few movements throughout the day (and they have got more frequent now) I'm happy. He's never been very active but in all the scans I've had he's been moving normally so I'm not too worried. My partner's mother tells me that he was the same when she was pregnant so I think bub just takes after him!

Me too! I can only really feel big kicks around the sides of my bump. I find it helps to lie on my side and try and compress one side, either by pulling my bottom leg up or by putting a pillow under the bump. I think that helps to push him against a side and I can def feel kicks then.

But overall I'm not too worried, I do get more light kicks and flutters now that I guess I couldn't feel before about 30 weeks (31 weeks as well now)

Happychick35 · 12/12/2013 10:32

thank you , at least I am not alone, I think I get a bit less kicks now, but apparently it is normal as baby grows bigger and I feel like what do you mean less, I barely felt anything in the beginning !!! I wish I could not stress about it ...

I think most trusts don't actually recommend kick counting anymore. I have an anterior placenta but either baby is very active or I have slack tummy muscles as I feel her regularly. Sometimes would go for a morning or afternoon with nothing, or most of the day only for her to have a frenzy at night time.
If you're worried,do go in and get checked. At 31 weeks the pattern should be predictable and if you're paying attention you should instinctively notice. On the other hand being overly conscious might make you panic when there's no need. But I think as movement is such an indicator of fetal wellbeing, and you are the only one who can tell, its best to err on the side of caution.

I have a high anterior placenta, whilst I normally have a really really (!!!) active baby - I guess this is down to me be small, skinny and baby measuring big (?) - he can have quiet days that freak the hell out of me. But he always come back bouncing away the next day. I didn't realise it could be something to do with the placenta positioning..

  • But, I do find hot drinks make him move better than cold ones, does the same happen with anyone else? - also chocolate makes him move to!

Oops! Stupid phone! I've just reached 30 weeks an have an anterior placenta. I feel movements more in the evenings when i'm relaxing and the midwife said this is normal as when you're at work you're too busy to notice. I asked about kick counting at my last appointment and she said i should be able to count 10 movements a day and if i don't i should contact them. It's a nightmare having an anterior placenta and i think it's hard for us not to stress over the movements. I agree with another post which said laying on my side and compressing slightly seems to make him kick sometimes!x

I'm only 23wks but have an anterior placenta for this pregnancy again - and they've been completely different so far! With ds, I felt nothing until 21wks and was never kept awake with kicking or anything like that. I assumed due to placenta, but with this one she's really active and I've felt movement since 13wks or so. So I think baby's personality plays a bigger part than we think - ds is a lazy so and so outside the womb too (trying not to think about the implications of this one being active already!) so I would just try to focus on whether the pattern is different from what you're used to with your baby.

As for getting them to move, breathing really deeply can help as the increased oxygen gets them wriggling :)

I am 36 weeks with an anterior placenta. Baby seemed to have a pattern from about 25-30 weeks but now i just get random jabs. If i am ever worried and cant remember if i have felt a job i find fizzy things or playing music through headphones onto my bump helps get it to squirm a bit.
As long as baby moves it settles me. Now i get lovely punches in the bladder so i know all is ok.
If you are ever concerned always call your midwife though.

I have an anterior placenta and am 38 weeks.

I felt movements really early on, bt nothing regular until about about week 26 onwards, but until about 33 weeks I had some very worrying quiet moments and went in for reduced movement on two occasions, but it just turned out the baby was kicking in a different place anf padded by the placenta.

I now feel the baby move alot but hace still had episodes of quiet just before a growth spurt.

The other thing I have noticed is counting kicks is only helpful to me when monitoring a quiet period. Otherwise I am more interested/observant about patterns in behaviour. For example, my little one is quiet from 8am to 11 am. I might , might feel the odd tickle, but at 10:30 it starts to moveca little like it stirring nad by 11/11:30 it is in full aerobics mode.

if you are in doubt, contact your assessment unit.

I don't have this problem but I'm 32 weeks and still sleep on m front propped up by a pillow around my tummy. And sometimes it moves xxxx

Happychick35 · 16/12/2013 20:14

Thank you girls, at least I am not alone. I feel so jealous when other women say oh yes the baby is kicking all the time. I need to work and hard to get mine going ....And I have midwife number on speed dial , I do go and check out whenever I feel worried.
