Feeling damn right miserable Confused

8 months gone with DC2, full of cold and a lively 19 month old to boot.

Please tell me there is a magic cure out there somewhere Shock I actually think I'm dying.

arrrgh you poor thing..

last week i had a lemsip with a vitamin c tablet in and the juice of half a lemon, and a spoon on Manuka honey... then lots and LOTS of water, hot water, and good comfort food.. it helped somewhat..

I really feel for you having had two colds so far this pregnancy. Unfortunately it is not advised to take lemsip as although the paracetemol is considered safe the decongestant is not. However I think the Boots version is ok - just check to make sure it hasn't got phenylephrine hydrochloride in it.
I stuck to the juice of half a lemon and lots of honey in hot water taken with paracetemol. You can also use Vicks vapour rub on your chest or a tissue to help clear your nose. Although at night it also seems to work really well if you put it on the soles of your feet. And as the previous poster says make sure you drink plenty so you don't get dehydrated.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yep, the Boots version only has paracetamol but you may as well take a couple of paracetamol tablets in that case, and follow it with a homemade hot lemon and honey drink as that tastes much better!

Super high dose vitamin c is proven to shorten upper respiratory infections.

ChicaMomma · 11/12/2013 15:07

jammiecat that isnt true about lemsip, i asked them in boots and there is ONLY paracetamol in it. I have the 'Lemsip max Cold & Flu hot lemon 1000mg'. It has paracetamol as the only active ingredient. I asked her as it ok during pregnancy and she said absolutely. There is no decongestant in it. That's not to say that some of the lemsip version dont have phenylephrine hydrochloride in them though, obviously- perhaps there is a version that does contain that.

jammiecat · 11/12/2013 15:27

To be honest Chica I've not looked at the packet it was just what the GP told me so I never looked any further. I just stuck with the lemon and honey with paracetemol as there seemed nothing to gain from buying anything with just those ingredients when it was cheaper to make my own.

ChicaMomma · 11/12/2013 15:33

I have the packet here in front of me and i can assure you they are pregnancy safe as there is no decongestant- but i'm assuming there is another lemsip version that does indeed contain the phenylephrine. Just check with your pharmacist OP. She also told me not to exceed 2 doses over 24 hours, even though the standard dose says to not exceed 4.

There is however aspartame in lemsip- something i'm actively trying to avoid, gave up diet coke for the same reason!

jammiecat · 11/12/2013 15:37

My GP was obviously being over cautious then or wasn't aware Confused

I'll remember that if I get another cold :-)

PastaBeeandCheese · 11/12/2013 17:30

I'll join you on the bench. 2 year old is poorly too. We're watching Disney DVD on sofa under a blanket.

I bought a Boots steam inhaler in my last pregnancy and am using that. It really does help with some Olbas in it.

meditrina · 11/12/2013 17:36

A nip of whisky?

Seriously, one unit (measure it, not typical home pouring) won't hurt.

MrsJK · 11/12/2013 20:13

Thank you ladies.

We didn't make it out today else would have investigated the lemsip Smile

I have instead been drinking my own concoctions of honey, lemon & paracetamol. Not done an iota of good so far Confused
