Hi

I'm new to mumsnet so hi, and I hope someone might help put my mind at rest. Pregnancy tests say I'm 5 weeks pregnant and my husband and I are so excited - this will be our first baby. Problem is, I haven't had many symptoms and the few I had (slightly sore breasts and a few mild period type pains) have all gone - nothing for a few days now. I'm worried our baby is no more.. I haven't miscarried but I'm panicking that it's not developing into a baby.. I have my first antenatal appointment next week but that's just to register details so is there any way to tell before the end of January which would be my first scan?

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy! Symptoms can come and go, personally I had symptoms similar to pre-period type things around 4-5 weeks, they calmed down, then didn't get any other symptoms til around 8 weeks. My son is now nearly 3 years old!!

Try not to worry unless there's any reason to (severe cramping, bleeding etc). You can pay privately for a scan if you wanted to, but not really worth doing this until at least 8/9 weeks otherwise you don't really see a lot. It's easy to become obsessive with scans though as they only show you what's happening right then and there.

Hey and Congrats!

I personally found this time round (this is number 3 for me) that I had pretty much no symptoms until about 6-7 weeks. I only took a test because my period was late and I didn't even get a positive test until I was 8 days late still with no symptoms. I'm now 24 weeks gone so obviously a positive result in my case.

Symptoms vary from woman woman you might find you have hardly any or you might find they kick in over the next few weeks. Mine caught up with me and I ended up with morning sickness from 7 weeks.

Try not to worry yourself just take each day at a time and stay positive. Good luck!

Hello!
Congratulations Smile
I found out i was pregnant at 5 weeks, i had a few period types aches and cramps right away but clear and obvious symptoms didn't start until about 7/8 weeks. Mainly being sick up to 5 times each morning before work! Lasting until 24 weeks!
I convinced myself there would be no baby at both scans, and no heartbeat at every check, and obsessed over movements and symptoms tirelessly.
I am now 36 weeks pregnant and only now feel really secure in my pregnancy, i wish i had enjoyed it more but i imagine first timers often feel this way!
Try to enjoy this special time Smile

Thank you all so much for replying - it's such a huge comfort!! Although I'm sure each pregnancy is so different, I think your first is especially nerve-wracking so great to hear I'm not alone in the lack of symptoms! It sounds like I should be making the most of it and enjoying the lack of morning sickness - week 7/8 seems to be similar which would lead to an interesting Christmas :S
Louise182, you sound like you've been through it!! I totally understand your worries (I guess you don't ever stop worrying from now on as it's hardly going to stop when your lovely baby is born!) but I'm going to take your advice and enjoy it whilst I can!
Thank you so much for your messages - it really means a lot! :)

Congratulations bean! It's such an exciting and nerve-wracking time.
I know that nothing except the scan will really put your mind at rest, but for me I had some light period-like cramps very early on, and then basically nothing. No sickness, tiredness, cramps, sore boobs, cravings... My skin got worse after a few weeks but I didn't connect the dots on that one, and my libido went to zero, but beyond that the only way I knew was my slightly increasing belly size. Oh I did get really thirsty actually, which is unusual for me but I do live in a hot country. I hope everything goes well for you! Now I'm 18 weeks and nervous about my anomaly scan next week!

Plateofcrumbs · 11/12/2013 06:28

We really do worry don't we!

I think I felt very similar to you at 5 weeks, some mild cramps for a few days then just sore boobs - other than that I felt really good physically, probably better than normal! Nausea started for me between 6 and 7 wks.

I've had a few days where my symptoms almost disappeared, but then came back. All this seems normal (and I've done enough frantic worried googling to feel confident about that! Grin )

Plateofcrumbs · 11/12/2013 06:29

Oh yes I've been really thirsty too

And forgot to say congratulations bean!!

elishalesley · 11/12/2013 09:02

I didn't have any symptoms until around 6-7 weeks. I wouldn't worry but if your that concerned you can go to your doctor and request an early scan
