Unusual 1st Trimester?

Ok so I am 7w+3 and for the last 8 days or so I have felt like absolute crap. All the usual symptoms but so much worse. After vomiting twice at work last week and passing out once I have booked the next two weeks off.

All I have been doing is lying in bed, I can barely eat, when I do I want to/do puke, even when I don't eat I still feel sick. I keep getting really hot and feeling dizzy. I have fainted twice now. I sleep pretty much 15 hours a day. Even the smallest move like standing up or turning over in bed can make me feel nauseous. I also kept getting extremely bad stomach cramps last week.

I am not usually a sickly person or a hypochondriac. I keep thinking man up, get over it most women do this without anyone knowing they're pregnant but I feel absolutely awful. I don't know how I can cope with this for 7 more weeks? Is this normal??

Your pregnancy hormone levels are peaking at this stage of pregnancy so to a point, it is normal. It doesn't always last until 14 weeks as the levels begin to stabilise between nine to 12 weeks. It sounds hiseous though.

Full fainting is rare though, and sometimes strong pregnancy symptoms are associatic with a twin pregnancy? It might be a good idea to get a check at your local early pregnancy unit to make sure everything is ok.

The cramps are typically caused by the changes in the womb and the rapid growth. It is solid muscle and responds to the 'irritation' of the pregnancy by involuntary (generally harmless) contractions. Your progesterone hormone levels will rise and help it settle.

I have been through the early pregnancy twice and it does make you feel utterly weird. 'Manning up' doesn't really work when it comes to sickness which is very demoralising. You could probably benefit from anti-sickness medication.

Fingers crossed it passes quickly x

Its awful isn't it? This sounds so similar to how I felt between 6-16 weeks pregnant with my DD but it definitely peaked at about 8-9 weeks and then tapered off slowwwly (Sorry). Best advice I got given was just follow your body's cues-if you're tired go to bed, if you're hungry-eat etc. It isn't possible to 'man' or woman' up-you're growing a whole new person-its a big deal!!!! I found with the sickness that eating little and often helped esp really bland things liked plain baked potatoes, pasta, water biscuits etc. But if it gets too much definitely seek advice from GP. Big congratulations by the way xx

Yep.....im on week 13 and I still haven't "manned" up. Some women breeze through pregnancy, others like us get a rreally shit deal.
Stay in bed and if the nausea persists ask the doctor to prescribe anti sickness medication. Cyclizine has been my saviour.

Thanks for the reply Home.

I am finally thinking about going to the docs to get some anti-sickness tabs but I wonder if I will even get there. I went for a walk to the corner shop five minutes down the road today, I thought getting some fresh air would do me good as I haven't left the house in 3 days, which is when I passed out for the second time. It was only for two seconds and no damage done as I had already sat down in the middle of the pavement because I felt that ill. A lovely older gentleman picked me up and escorted me home which was sweet.

I have a docs appointment next week which I am worried I will even get to it. It's over an hour away by tube, DH has offered to pay for a taxi but, so the train doesn't make me feel even more sickly but I don't really want him forking out £70+ for a round trip.

Feel awful that DH is working 15 hour shifts then has to come home and cook for me as I can't bear the smell of almost anything cooking anymore, and then I usually only eat half or less before I feel sick.

I am so surprised by how quick the onset was from feeling occasionally groggy at 6 weeks to this. It's unbelievable. I never knew to expect any of this.

Thanks tea and where glad to know I'm not alone.

I also worry DH is going to get bored with this nonsense soon. He has been nothing but supportive so far but I can't help but think soon he will just think 'oh just get on with it like the rest of the world.' He'd never say that to me but I just want this to be over with so I can return to some form of normality.

I completely relate. I felt very similar at the 7-8 week mark. I am 15 weeks now and better than I was but still not great. If you can't make if to the GP I would phone them. They may be able to give you a anti sickness and send it somewhere for you to pick up.

redcaryellowcar · 06/12/2013 22:10

I had similar symptoms, as others say, as much as you would like to 'man up' its just not possible and rest and taking it easyare t the only way forward. It liy will improve, i found by 20weeks i was feeling better, but had exosted on jacket potatoes until then.
I fainted quite a bit, think part of it for me was dehydtation, in that i felt and was sick quitea lot sodrank very little, which led to me not having enough fluids, overheating and lowered blood pressure.
Do goto doctor, they seem to be able to do so much now.

catameringue · 07/12/2013 04:51

I got to the point I couldn't keep water down, phoned nhs non emergency number and had a prescription within an hour. Really helped the sickness. I think you're stuck with the sleeping. Do get yourself to docs and get meds or signed off.
I found it much tougher than anyone had me believe. X

I'm going through the same! First pg and feeling hideous, although I've not been sick and can still eat the waves of nausea, dizziness and head aches are horrible! I feel sea sick! I'm 7 weeks !

quackojuliet · 07/12/2013 10:58

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rough. I was the same around this time and it got better by around 14 weeks, then I felt great in the 2nd tri!
Really everyones pregnancy is different and no point comparing to friends or colleagues who had felt fine (I did this but now regret it)
Its almost like the duration of pregnancy is about learning to accept your body's signals and not fight them. Manning up is the type of thing a man would say who frankly has never been pregnant!
As I wasn't puking uncontrollably my gp wouldn't prescribe anti sickness meds in the first tri but I think next time I would definitely get them. Am 35 weeks now and those days are still the roughest I've ever felt in my life!

quackojuliet · 07/12/2013 11:00

Oh and I got a little relief from anti sickness bands..even if it was all in my head,I held on to them for dear life!

HomeHypno · 07/12/2013 12:40

Travel sickness bands, peppermint oil to sniff, homeopathic nux vomica pills are all safe and easy to find in health shops and bigger Boots. My other favourites were fruit juice ice lollies in the evenings when my tummy was constantly churning with nausea, mandarins (and sniffing the peel), sips of cold full fat coke during train journeys, swilling ice water in my mouth, chilled carrot sticks soaked in ice water, gummi bears....

Now the appetite is back with vengeance and food tastes amazing...!
