Would they tell you if they couldn't see nasal bone at 12 week scan?

We have had a look at the picture and its just very blurry and you can't tell. Is this something they would tell you about if they had noticed?

Op I had a private nuchal scan at around 12 weeks they looked for the nasal bone. My Nhs sonographer the next week said it is not a marker they use anymore. However I think everything looks a little blurry at this stage so please don't get to anxious.

The one thing i would urge you not to do is self diagnose your own scan pics- i did this with the nuchal fold measurement and had myself convinced it was 6mm!!! turned out it was 0.47mm.. dont forget we are not trained sonographers!

They SHOULD tell you if the nasal bone looks weak- BUT it's a really soft marker anyway- and every hospital is different too- did you have the actual fold measured? If you're worried, get further testing, there is no reason for you to worry for the next 7 mths as a result. I worried about it A LOT so i'm glad now i can put a line under it and move on..

YY to not diagnosing your own scan pictures!
We are not trained - the sonographers study at university for several years and are highly trained to pick things up on ultrasounds.
Like Chica I also tried measuring my own nuchal measurement (brief moment of worry and weakness after refusing the NT measurement) and panicked - everything's normal though!
Could you possibly ask at your next MW appointment? Or ask for further tests? I know midwives are not sonographers either but some have some training, and I asked my midwife about why baby's measurements were measuring at different stages and she reassured me it's normal and happens all the time.

I'm not the only freak so babysealion haha.. i wouldnt mind, but the picture i was using was an iphone screen grab OF a scan pic.. different dimensions, then i had it on my screen in work comparing it to pics of babies who had ended up being born with Downs.. really????

It's very normal to have the NT measure differently- mine was 0.47 at 11+3, they extrapolated this to 1.2 at 13 weeks- i think- it grows with gestation anyway..will eventually be 4mm at 20 odd weeks etc..

thanks ladies, after three miscarriages (both missed and otherwise) I can't believe I am finally lucky enough to have made it to a normal 12 week scan. Nuchal measurement was 1.5 so fine, I forgot to ask about nasal bone so it could be there or it might not be - I just can't tell and they didn't say anything. I will drive myself completely mad!

Many NHS hospitals won't consider the nasal bone, although leading research clinics still believe it is a good marker.

The trouble with interpreting scan photos (aside from the obvious "not a sonographer" issue) is that a) you can't know the scale and b) it's a 2D slice of a 3D object, in other words, unless you know the photo is "focused" on a particular thing and is meant to be of that thing, it may well be that the thing you want to see is not properly on that 2D plane if that makes sense? After all, take a wafer thin slice of your head and does it have a nasal bone? Depends where you take the slice from!

Beatrix 1.5 is a great reading- nowhere near the danger level- put it to bed! That is far more important than having a strong nasal bone anyway!

thanks ladies Smile I just can't believe I might finally become a mummy
