Is this low abdominal pain related to my SPD? And other pelvis Qs...

Hi, I know there's loads about Spd on old threads but I have a couple of questions that I can't find an answer to.

Firstly the pain (familiar from last pg) started a week ago. I'm 23 weeks. Pain down inner thighs, groin and bum. But today the pain seems to be shooting up my bikini line and into my lower abdomen, esp when i am sitting down. It's not round ligament pain (I know that well too) it feels more internal and throbbing than that. I gues I'm particularly concerned because an abdo pain is a bit worrying. Is it normal for spd to be felt higher up?

Secondly I have a very busy 2 yr old! He's also quite clingy at the moment and I can't not pick him up. It's killing me! But one thing I can presumably do is carrying sitting on the floor to play with him? But I can't get comfortable. Any tips for being comfortable on the floor with a toddler?

And thirdly any recommendations for a specific support belt? There seem to be too many to choose from. I have seen the name serola on here a few times but it doesn't look as supportive as some of the others? Maybe because its smaller and I guess that's a good thing?

I have called mw and am waiting for a call back but it takes forever ime. H e health insurance so am hoping for a referral to an osteo before long but need to see gP first.

Thanks in advance

Hi, I have SPD, it's not really high up. It's all in my pelvis and the muscles in my bum and thighs ache because I think I tense them constantly. I think you should rule out a UTI or trapped nerve.

I have a two and a half year old, I can't sit on the floor at all, it's way too uncomfortable. If he wants to colour, do play doh etc. we sit at the kitchen table. If he wants to play cars, do jigsaws, we use the big coffee table. Sitting on the floor (and having to get up) will do you no good. There's always snuggling up and reading books or watching tv so you don't miss out on the hugs.

I have a serola band. It's not the sexiest item in the world but it really helps me. I need my pelvis to be held tightly (that sounds so odd but you know what I mean) and none of the other belts gave me as much support. Your physio should give you a few belts to try and then they give you the one that you think is better suited. They'll show you how to fit them and all that stuff.

I hope you're feeling better soon, SPD can be so draining and sore.

lower abdomen are spd symptoms. It's br really high up, it's just above where the pubic joint meets but when I sit down it feels higher iuswim. I also have the awful thigh and buttock ache.

Mw is referring me to physio, am not uk so it's not Nhs. So I'm not sure if they'll provide me with a belt, so if not I'll order a serola one. Thanks for the tip.

We don't have a coffee table but might hae to inves in a low table as sitting on the floor is killing me!

It's tough.
Knees together is the mantra!
So i suggest if you are on the floor a kneeling position.Perhaps on a cushion with a pillow behind your knees.Sometimes leaning forward onto your hands for a shift in circulation?
Definately stay off the sofa.
The relaxin hormone effect peaks in the middle trimester so hopefully if you make adjustments to your posture and positions now ,things might not get any worse or might even improve! :)
I hope so.

I'm not in the UK either, but I went through my Maternity Hospital physio and she gave me the belt. Have you got a pregnancy pillow, I find them invaluable. A low table is the best investment (mines from Ikea), ours has been destroyed because of all the cars that have been raced up and down it, but I don't care.

Hope you feel better. Glad the midwife got back to you.

I still have SPD from when I had DS2, he will be 17 on Christmas Eve.

I still get that pain in my abdomen, sometimes I have to have a proper think if it is stomach ache or my pelvis, but it is my pelvis. It gets a lot worse when my period is due.

I couldn't walk without crutches from 19 weeks and was in a wheelchair from 30, DS2 was born at 37 weeks. There was no way I could have sat on the floor, and I could not carry DS1. He was just 2 when DS2 was born, he understood I couldn't pick him up, he would sit next to me on the sofa for snuggles and cuddles.

You really, really do need to look after yourself.
