What's involved in a c-sect pre-op?

I'm booked for a c-sect on the 17th Dec so I'm having my pre-op the day before. Now the midwives have explained what happens on the day of delivery but not on the pre-op so I was wondering what they will do?

Will they put me on the monitor?, scan me?, take bloods? Just curious.

Iv not had one but from what I'm told they do your height, weight and bloods to check blood group and if your annemic they give you a tablet to take( something to do with your stomach acids I think) and swab your groin to check for mrsa.

Swabs for me, gave me tablets to reduce heartburn and prevent vomiting, and also scanned the baby - and found out DS was transverse breech.

Short appt, was in and out.

Good luck!

Ok, I don't like the sound of being swabbed! Is that a vaginal swab?!

I just got weighed, height measured etc. Blood pressure, pee check. Then took bloods, discussed the section - had a swab in arm pits to check to see if I was susceptible to hospital virus, can't remember the name, because if u are you get antibiotics before hand.. No vaginal swab and would be surprised as it's a section so nothing happening down there!

I also got the heartburn tablets and listened to babies heart beat but no scan, had a scan morning of section to check he was still breech through.

Really useful thread- thanks for starting it OP and thanks for the responses. My pre-op is on Christmas Eve!

Groin swab, but not vaginal - just run the swab yourself over the area where your leg joins your body in the crease if you see what I mean. In fact I think you do all of the swabs yourself.

They take bloods just to check iron, platelets etc. They lost them, and I had to have more day of the c-section which pushed the time back. I never had a scan (baby turned out to be breech, ha ha!) and I was told to go buy my own rantidine..!

No height or weight, in fact it was all a bit of a letdown!

I suspect places vary. I'll be interested to see what my current hospital does with ELCS this time round. I'm already on omeprazole for heartburn so I don't know if I'll need a premed.

I had this today, in prep for my section tomorrow.

I had to do a swab of my nose and the perineum to check for mrsa

They did my weight, took bloods, asked some questions about preferences for vitamin k, and catheter.

Then I met with anesthetist to discuss op and the risks etc

Was all ok

Nothing to add, but I like what is being described. So different than a emcs! I really want to have a planned cs if I have 2nd DC. This has convinced me even more that a planned cs is what I really want. Thanks OP
