Transatlantic return flight at 7/8 months pg?

Would this be crazy?? Have looked at airlines and as far as I can tell most will let you fly pretty late into your pregnancy with a note from your doctor confirming due date, but would it be too uncomfortable/stressful? Am trying to plan when to start TTC #1 and when we want to start trying will mean I will need to fly in last trimester for important family wedding. I realise this will probably end up being a moot point as unlikely to get pregnant within the first few months of trying, but would be interested to hear advice from those who know/have done it.

Plus I might be feeling really really ill or really really fine. But on average, what do you think? I want to plan dammit!!!!

A lot of travel insurance won't cover you if you're over 28 weeks, so I wouldn't risk it. If you're going to the states you'd be crazy to go without insurance.

I couldn't have done it, I did the ny flight at 6mnths and was soooo uncomfortable for the entire flight. I can't sit in the car now for longer than an hour and a half without being incredibly uncomfortable (37 weeks) x

Even if the airline allows you to fly with a doctors note confirming your due date, your doctor might not give you a note if you have any risks in your pregnancy! You can't guarantee that you won't have some sort of complications. Could you not postpone trying by one more cycle? How important a wedding is it? If my brother or sister were getting married I would plan around being able to go, but if it was a cousin or friend other than one or two very very close ones I would just start trying and if I couldn't go so be it... I just wouldn't want to run the risk of not being at a sibling's wedding.

I'm flying to New York in two weeks, I will be 28 weeks pregnant. Back again at 29 weeks. My airline says I can fly up until 36 weeks, providing I have a note from my doctor which I am getting three days before we fly. My doctor has also prescribed me compression stockings to wear on the flight.

The doctor has advised the usual, walking around the cabin, drinking water etc.

I wouldn't have wanted to book flights for any later in my pregnancy though, mainly down to the risk of the doctor saying I wouldn't be able to go.

I would just go for TTC when you are ready and see what happens!

Oh thanks for the replies everyone.

We'd be going from California to UK and back.

I think we'd be best to postpone a bit then :( I'm meant to be maid of honour so yes I think it would be ridiculous on a whole number of levels. I just want a baby so badly! Talking about Aug 2015 by the way. Such a long way away :(

Could bring TTC forward but DH has so much going on we'd rather not. :( oh well!

August 2015 and you're worrying about it? You want a baby and you're planning to leave it a further couple of months due to something in August 2015? Just get on with it! When you conceive you'll have 9months notice for your busy DH to get sorted before the arrival. Putting it off further sounds mad.

Just go have sex!

Agh but we've just bought a flat that's too small really. Oh golly just agh! I'm a major planner (clearly) and it's stressing me out! Need to just let things happen. Blah.

If everyone waited until timing was perfect, no one would ever have kids. There will always be things like weddings....Smile

hermioneweasley · 05/12/2013 14:14

My aunt and uncle raised my cousin in a one bed flat. You'll cope. As Penguins said, timing is never perfect.

Agree with others. It will never be the right time. Stuff will always come up. Life is unpredictable. If you want a baby, go for it. Other things will have to fall into place.

Inglori0us · 05/12/2013 17:54

I flew London to NY at 28 weeks and it was very uncomfortable and if I'm honest I wouldn't do it again. Get extra legroom if you can as that's probably help a bit. A fly with a really nice airline.

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 09/12/2013 14:28

I wouldn't let it stop me. I actually think flying early in pg is much worse. If you're only a couple months pregnant you can bet you'll be be nauseaous, not able to take the smell, recycled air, turbulence.

I spent a flight puking in to a bin bag when 3 months pg.

Semniyak, when it comes to pregnancy there is no such thing as being a major planner. It is just such an unpredictable and unique situation. There is no way I'd guarantee I'd travel transatlantic at that stage of pregnancy. As others have said, if you really want a baby then start TTC now.

Ad what penguins said Smile.
