Shock

Are the contractions regular? What did the check for dilation show?

Writerwannabe83 · 05/12/2013 15:54

Shock - I can't believe they have just sent you home.

What do they mean by the term 'manage them' ??

What is their plan??

I hope the pains have eased a little x

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/12/2013 16:40

Hang on a minute. You're 26 weeks pregnant and having actual contractions (did they confirm that?) and you got sent home? What?! Are you dilating?

Honestly, if that's the case I'd go to a different maternity unit and request a second opinion.

Rhianna1980 · 05/12/2013 16:43

Go to another maternity unit. Doesn't sound right to me xxx

Mama1980 · 05/12/2013 16:49

Wtf?! What did the dilation scan show? I cannot believe they sent you away, if you are having regular contractions you need to get to another hospital.
I don't want to scare you but I've delivered at both 26 and 24 weeks, both my baby's are fine but only because I had immediate hospital treatment, steroids for their lungs etc. you need to be checked properly.

apocketfulofposy · 05/12/2013 17:16

any news op?

brettgirl2 · 05/12/2013 17:38

So I assume that's good news in one way that they don't think it's labour? I also got sent home still contracting but had steroid injections Confused

jessandalfie · 05/12/2013 17:58

They sed I wasn't dilating witch is a good thing an if the pains get any stronger to go bk there still the same so gona see how they are in the next hour an go bk coz still in a lot of pain didn't offer me any injections :/

brettgirl2 · 05/12/2013 18:03

Did they also do a fibrenectin test?

Mama1980 · 05/12/2013 18:10

Did they monitor the baby?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/12/2013 18:16

Did they confirm whether they were actually contractions? If you've had a shock is it possible your waves of pain aren't actually contractions but a reaction to worry, hence the mu's lack of concern?

PeanutPatty · 05/12/2013 18:19

If you have any concerns get back on the phone to them. Don't take no for an answer. Yes it's a PITA that they are busy but they have a duty of care to you and your baby.

McBaby · 05/12/2013 19:05

I had a similar issue in previous pregnancy I was contracting every 10 minutes for 36 hours (they could see them on the monitor) at 26 weeks but as no dilation and swab test to check for labour they do was negative there was nothing else they could do but they did admit me for 24 hours and give me steroids just in case. And told me to rest and take pain killers when I was discharged still contracting.

They same thing happened every couple of weeks until I finally gave birth at 41 weeks and I was diagnosed with an irritable uterus. Stress made it much worse as did dehydration maybe the stress of your grandad and the meningitis could have set them off.

I would go back to the hospital if your concerned and ask for the steroids as then you know if it does develop in to labour your have done all you can to help your baby.

MiracleOntheM4 · 05/12/2013 19:29

I had this around 28 weeks with DD1. They have me steroids for her lungs and kept me in for observation for 48 hours.

Hope it passes quickly OP and is not serious.

meditrina · 05/12/2013 19:34

Could you clarify: you're 26 weeks, a known contact of meningitis, definite contractions - and they've sent to home

Did they stick a monitor on you to establish the contractions?

jessandalfie · 05/12/2013 19:56

Yeah I've been on the monitor they told me it was contractions but they wernt concerned as I'm not dilating. I am still getting pains just going for a bath to see if they ease of if not I'm goin bk to the hosp x

OP posts:
brettgirl2 · 05/12/2013 20:19

Bath sounds like a good idea. Monitoring showed I was contracting too, negative fibrenectin, but they were definitely worried that the contractions could potentially trigger labour ifyswim? So you need to at least be aware. It's very good news that cervix not dilating though x

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 05/12/2013 22:43

Stay strong. {{{hug}}}
They take premature labour very seriously, If there was any risk, Im sure you'd be in having steroids to help the baby. Try and rest and try not to worry.

notapizzaeater · 06/12/2013 13:44

How are you today ? How's grandad ? X

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 07/12/2013 21:29

How are you doing now op?

jessandalfie · 07/12/2013 23:06

Sorry for late replys been trying to relax. Didn't end up going bk to hosp as everything seemed to calm down still getting the odd pains but nothing compared to how I was the other day. Grandads still the same, I'm staying away all though I really want to see him to make sure he's ok but I know I can't x

Writerwannabe83 · 08/12/2013 09:33

I'm glad things have settled down for you - what a very tense few days you had. I hope your granddad makes a good recovery too. It must be hard not being able to see him but I'm sure everyone understands x
