Obstetric cholestasis

I'm 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow and have just heard back from my doctor that I've been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis. Just looking to see if anyone else has had this?

Doctor said my levels are abnormal after my blood test and I have been booked in to go to the midwife assessment unit at the hospital tomorrow at 9am but have no idea what to expect? Can anyone help?

They'll probably do a quick scan and repeat the bloods. Depending on what your ALT and bile acid levels are, they may want to induce/do a c-section a bit early. How early really depends on your liver function tests and the scan, but they will try to get you to 37/38 weeks if poss.

I was monitored for OC throughout second half of first pregnancy - weekly blood tests - but levels while abnormal did not get so high that they had to deliver me early - and as DS was breech I ended up with a CS at 38+5 anyway.

Do you have itchy palms/soles of feet?

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit worried as I will be 37 weeks the Wednesday before Christmas, and 38 weeks on Christmas Day and wasn't expecting her to arrive until the new year!!

It was the itchy palms and feet that made me google my symptoms and speak to my midwife. So glad I did as I originally thought I was just being paranoid and was just going to leave it.

The doctor said my levels were abnormal but not too high so hopefully it's something they can control and not have to induce me early Shock

Hopefully the levels will stay where they are and they will just keep an eye on you. Another friend had it and her baby arrived a couple of weeks early of his own accord, so it doesn't have to mean early induction/CS. It's really good that they have caught it though as they will monitor you closely, which is important. Good luck - fingers crossed for you.
