Worried I have overexerted and consequences

Hi ladies,

I think I am worrying far too much but I would just like some opinions please, if you have time.

I am 5 weeks pregnant and was playing with my nearly 3 year old niece yesterday for about 15 minutes, I was just picking her up, twizzing her upside down and then gently putting her on the sofa, then she'd run back to me to do it again.

It was knackering as it always is when you play with children, but this morning I have woke up with really bad muscular back pain. Which I don't usually get after playing with either of my nieces. I am so worried I have overexerted myself and may have caused some adverse consequence.

Is this really just my body telling me that I can't be as active with them, and pregnancy wise, not really anything to worry about, or as I have clearly overexerted myself, could I have caused some kind of adverse effect as things are so early on? Think I have been reading Google too much!

Thank you for taking the time to read Thanks

Dont worry. Lots of women who are pregnant with toddlers carry on like this daily!! My friend is pregnant with twins and has a 16 mth old who is VERY HARD WORK!!! I plan on having No2 quite close to No1 also (all going to plan) so will likely be in the same scenario.

But do listen to your body and take it easier from now on.
I did way too much during weeks 6-10 and ended up having a bleed- it really has slowed me down, and no harm in that.

In your case the baby is so well protected by the pelvis you really have nothing at ALL to worry about.

Hi Op. I wouldn't worry. At 5 weeks I was still doing 45 min spinning classes, gym weight training and extreamy intensive exercises 5/6 days a week. I am 35+5 and I am still training. I have had to slow down a bit because it causes me back ache and sets off the braxton hicks but at 5 weeks you should be fine. I also had o slow down a bit because I had HG.

I was an extremely active person prior to falling pregnant so my body was used to it. Listen to your body. If you feel you are doing too much then slow down.

Thank you both so much for your reassuring responses!

Chica you make a very good point regarding mums to be with other children to look after! I never thought of it that way. I'm glad to hear that things are ok with you and wish you a happy rest of your pregnancy Thanks

Littlemy goodness you are making me feel even more unfit that I already do! Don't know how you do it! I will definitely take it easier now regarding playtime with my nieces, although it was only for 15 minutes! I understand that out bodies have ways to tell us to slow things down though so I will listen to it.

Thank you again for your responses Thanks Smile

Honestly don't worry!

Bleeding etc is very rarely caused by something we do. Im on dc6 & i have never 'slowed' down until I had to. Im 32 weeks & im physically struggling now but didn't with any of the other dc until 37/38 weeks.

Thank you Shelly you have reassured me Thanks

And, wow 6! I would love a big family, we've agreed on 4 up to now but you never know!

Sausage I am a bit addicted to keeping fit. Blush. Can't wait to go back properly once she is born. I have even included gym time in to our childcare calculations. Sad, but true. Grin Ha ha ha ha
