Im 26 werks and so far been having my care, ie, scans, apps, etc, at my local hospital (which has a notoriously bad reputation all round). Its been convenient for traveling to etc as i already have 2 dc. However in this very same hospital i had gynea surgery in march this year and nearly died due to staff error (massive internal bleed was missed until almost too late).
Anyhow i lived to tell the tale but now the time is getting ever closer to my due date i am seriously concerned about having my planned c section at this hospital. I am having c section in relation to this earlier surgery and the complications arrisen from it.
I am due another scan at 36 weeks to check babys size (dc2 was big) and to sort a c section date. I wanted to hang on till then and then ask about transferring my care to a a better hospital for the actual birth.
Is this possible and am i within my rights to request this?
Sorry for the long winded post.

You can request any hospital you like, but the longer you leave it the less likely they'll be able to accommodate you. Would be simpler if you were going in to have a vaginal birth as I don't think they can really turn you away but as you require surgery they may have booked up their docs already. Hopefully you can get it sorted, good luck.

I switched the hospital I intend to birth in from the closest local one to another one a little further away last week, I was 36 weeks when we decided to change. My midwife simply filled in a referral form and gave me the new number I'd need to call when in labour. She said that all my antenatal appointments and care would continue to be provided with her, but just the hospital I go too is different.

I changed hospitals at 30 weeks as we moved house. It was a bit more fiddly as we're under consultant care but generally a pretty easy process. I'd ring the maternity admissions/booking department at your new hospital now and just ask them about transferring and how the process works. This will make sure that they have room for you and can perhaps book you in for your 36 week scan and a chat with the antenatal team about your planned c-section. It'll give you a chance to visit the new hospital too and get a good feel for the place before the big day. Good luck! X

Thanks for replies ladies, makes me feel more reassured about being able to go ahead with my decision.
Sweetlittlebee, i am presently under consultant care as well as this pregnancy is being classed as high risk and i wondered if that being a factor might make it a bit more difficult so im glad to see you found it possible. Also it prob is a good idea to ask them directly about how it would work in case they will have trouble fitting me in under my circumstances.
Olivette, thats why i didnt want to say anything too soon in case it meant my antenatal care would be transferred to a diff mw as i like my current one, had her for dcs 1/2 and shes very on the ball. So its good to hear that i should be able to carry on my care as it is.
Mogz, i had considered that they could turn me away if they are too busy and its too short notice so im thinking maybe ile ask about this prior to 36 weeks and at least then the consultant ile be transfered to will have first hand knowledge of whats what. Thanks all.
Wish i was having a natural birth and then this wouldnt even be an issue :-$
