The doctor has told me iv got really low b12 and sent me for more blood tests to see if its still as low, but to be honest I'm not sure what happens if it stays so low, and if I should be worried or not, and don't really know much about it. If anybody knows more about it plz shed some light and give some advice plz

Hi, I have low B12. It's pernicious anaemia. I just get B12 injections every month or so - I do them myself at home because I have this problem outside pregnancy. Are you taking a multivitamin? I take Biocare's Antenatal one, it's twice a day so you get a constant supply of vitamins throughout the day.

I don't worry about mine. Take the multivitamins and also the injections if offered.

It's fine, I had this and they gave me oral supplements. Nothing to worry about apparently, you just might feel a bit more tired and breathless until the supplements kick in.

I have pernicious anemia too - but this is different to low b12. I can't absorb b12 by any other means but injection, whereas ops low b12 may be just caused by baby zapping all the b12 available. Don't stress too much at the moment op, just eat lots of green veg for now xxx

I had very low b12 after i had my last dc, to the point my immunity was shot to pieces and i got very ill and symptomatic before it was picked u on as its not routinely hecked for in blood screens. Pernicious anemia was ruled out so i had a course of shots which raised it and eventually all was ok.
Im now 26 weeks with dc3 and had bloods done for levels again as im concerned it will happen again. Still waiting for results but if its low ile be sure to get more shots before i end up poorly again.
Make sure you do the same.

I would ask your gp for an injection of B12

I also have pernicious anaemia. However I was told that if the doctor's had diagonised it and given me the first B12 injection earlier, I would not have half the problems I have now.

ask for a b12 injection

sorry to highjack but SolitudeSometimesIs how did you allow them to give you needles to self inject?

I've asked for that and they have have always said it was not possible

SolitudeSometimesIs · 02/12/2013 22:51

I'm not in the UK - don't know if that's a difference. I just asked my GP if I could do it, they said yes and gave me a needle tutorial and a prescription. It's 65 euros per GP visit here (free combined care during pregnancy though), I was keen to avoid paying that every month or so for the rest of my life.
