Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

god, after a couple of good daytimes, it sucks to be back to severe nausea. if only i could be sick and get rid of it

MurderOfGoths · 16/01/2014 17:25

Just got back from my consultant appointment, I'm 29 weeks now (30 on Sunday) and she wants me to try and reduce my steroids dose from 20mg to 10mg now, she told me that if I do get nausea I should persist in case it's withdrawal rather than HG. I am more than a little nervous. Don't want the nausea back at all, but at the same time I don't really want the risks associated with being on the steroids.

Totesamazeballs · 16/01/2014 18:10

Good luck MOG. I keep meeting glowing pregnant ladies - I can't wait for April even though I know it's going to be tough with two and the nights. I have been rather spoilt with DS as he is so amenable so concerned I might get a 'normal' child this time that cries and stuff!!

PunkStar · 16/01/2014 19:18

MoG
Hate the pred dilemma, I'm due to see my consultant in 10 days, I'm going to stay on the 20mg until then and see what he says. He did say that if I went to term with HG then I would be supported until the end but I know what you mean, I really want to be able to get off them. I'm getting a DEXA scan postnatally to make sure no osteoporosis (although he says in the couple of hundred women he's treated with pred for HG not one has had it nor developed gestational diabetes....so that is a little reassuring.)

Hope it's okay on the lower dose for you, fingers crossed...

LucindaE · 16/01/2014 21:00

Meerka Ah,m poor you, do feel for you, setbacks are so depressing.
Feel free to have a good moan.
MurderofGoths I can imagine it must be nerve racking and the best of luck. Punkstar Those statistics sound reassuring from the consultant.
SliceofLime I'm so glad you had such a lovely midwife, and mother hen has been anxious about your trying to tough it out.
Totes Your LO sounds an angel.
Chaffinch Glad you are starting to feel excited. It's not easy, with this scourge.
Jen and Livingzuid and Everyone I hope OK?
xx

Meerka, hugs for you. Take it easy. It's almost more horrible when it recurs than if it were to continue as normal.
Good luck with the steroids MOG xxxx
I'm 27w today and having morning sickness and ongoing nausea, after I thought it had gone away. I'm carrying my meto round with me and taking it every now and again.

jenpatnim · 16/01/2014 21:29

I have mostly spent the day in bed with pelvic pain and nausea. Trying to keep on top of eating - don't want to slide back into a ketone situation at this stage.

Other than that I am totally fed up with being pregnant. 36 weeks tomorrow..... bring on baby time.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 16/01/2014 21:37

woo-hoo for 36 weeks Jenn, can't wait for that point. My hips hurt too. Last night I got bad sciatic stuff on the left side, DH said me rolling over in bed is like ''turning the titanic''

Sally8655 · 16/01/2014 22:22

Meerka, really feel for you. Hope tomorrows a better day xx

Jen, its just not fair that the HG comes back with a vengeance towards the end. I've been sick most of the way through but it's definitely got worse this past few weeks.

Chaffinch, totally agree with the illustration!

I'm still at home, still having irregular contractions but currently feeling very strange down there and stuck on the loo! Could this finally be it? I'm hoping its not the week long labour some experience but it would be just my luck.

Sally8655 · 16/01/2014 22:23

MOG, hope things go ok with the meds xx

jenpatnim · 16/01/2014 22:29

Sally, my hips hurt too! And it is horrible trying to turn over! I am sleeping with a pillow between my legs and trying to get comfortable but it is so hard.

Good luck Sally - maybe this will be over soon for you!

Sally8655 · 16/01/2014 23:00

Jen the pillows do nothing for me, just get in the way more than anything. do you have it all down your thigh too? It's really strange cos its not always the side I'm sleeping on either.
Paracetamol and codeine do nothing.
Just think very soon we will be able to sleep on our backs again, bliss!!

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 16/01/2014 23:07

Hi all I have my answer as to whether it's the meds or the resting that's making me less sick, running out of prescription so skipped one and am presently in bed retching and eating cereal bars to try and stop.

Al least I know it's working though!

Can anyone advise if there is anything that stops you from feeling sick and retching when you look at things? Does that make sense?

MurderOfGoths · 16/01/2014 23:20

"Can anyone advise if there is anything that stops you from feeling sick and retching when you look at things? Does that make sense?"

Do you mean like looking at TV/screens/writing? I found that until I was put on the steroids it was like having a severe and unrelenting form of motion sickness. Couldn't so much as glance at a screen or book without retching.

Sally8655 · 16/01/2014 23:23

Poor you, but yes at least the meds are doing something for you. I'm sorry to say but nothing helped the nausea of hearing, smelling or seeing things that churned my stomach. Unfortunately it was just about everything that did this. Fresh air from a window open and a fan in my face constantly offered some relief.
Hope it subsides soon chic xx

livingzuid · 17/01/2014 08:13

Waiting at hospital for 20 week scan. Scared :(

Sally8655 · 17/01/2014 08:44

Hope all goes well living, are you finding out gender?

Meerka · 17/01/2014 09:05

whatareyou ... sadly no, nothing at all stopped the nausea for me, the meds gave a faint relief but that was it.

MOG exactly what you say! motion sickness. Any movement of my body or on a screen, or type on a screen at its worst, and bleh.

sally really hope it all kicks off soon!!

doomfinch i get sciatica too, bum and thigh and all the way to my foot. Its milder this time, by chance I was actually having physio for it when I got preg and had done some weeks' worth of exercises. Course that's out of the windown now heh. Hope yorus improves.

MurderOfGoths · 17/01/2014 09:31

Thinking of you living

Meerka · 17/01/2014 10:12

missed that you had your scan living ... hope it goes well.

livingzuid · 17/01/2014 10:17

All good :) awesome. Baby growth slightly on the large side but still within normal ranges :)

We are having a girl! In awe! I cried. So did DH. Heard the heart beat for the first time. What an amazing experience.

Wonderful sonographer. Off to see psychiatrist now. Feel a bit nauseous today but chocolate milk is my latest thing (Chocomel meerka. I can't get enough.) waving to everyone will reply properly later.

All that sickness is worth it :)

Meerka · 17/01/2014 10:27

awwwwwww grats living! lovely, lovely news :)

LucindaE · 17/01/2014 11:10

Livingzuid It does make you anxious, but the chances are massively on your side.
Sorry to all those suffering with renewed sickness and sciatic pains are torment at night especially.

Livingzuid Just cross posted, that is happy news, and it's so nice when people say it was all worth it, either now, or when the baby is born.
Hugs to all suffering from sickness, sciatica, spd, heartburn, fatigue and depression. Back soon.
