Should I be worried or is this normal?

For the past 6 weeks or so I've had insomnia, really struggled to sleep, particularly at night so have been napping a little during the day. Largely, I've been getting by fine and have had lots of energy and have been using it to scrub the house within an inch of its life.

I'm 39 and 2 today however and in the last 48 hours, I must have slept for about 35 of them. I have no energy to eat, if I get up and about is crash out the second I sit down and have literally zero energy. I feel truly awful, tired, shaky and the joints in my arms are killing me. Everytime I wake up I am coated in sweat (TMI) and feel really upset/ stressed that I can't get everything organised and clean like I could last week but all I can do is roll over and sleep more, I desperately need a shower but the thought alone is exhausting. I can't remember the last time, if ever, I've slept so much!

DP has been great and is keeping an eye on me as well as doing all the little odd jobs left to do but I am worried there is something wrong with me as it is such a difference from even a couple of days ago. To cap it all off my midwife is now on holiday until after my due date and don't want to contact the hospital with any inane questions!

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal or could there be something to worry about?

I can't remember feeling like that but then I had zero energy for most my pregnancy! Are you still feeling baby move? I would call the hospital anyway, no question is inane for them and they should be able to put you at ease. X

I'm sure you are fine, but I would contact the hospital just to be safe. Good luck!

I remember towards the end I was totally shattered and all I could do was lie on the sofa, but it wasn't as bad at what you're describing. Phone your antenatal ward, they'd much rather you phone them if you're concerned you absolutely won't be bothering them, it's their job to look after you!

I dont recall feeling like that with either my 2 dcs, esp the sweating business. Like people are saying its probably nothing but i wud call hospital to be sure, good luck for the soon to be big day.

The sweating at night makes it sound like you are poorly and although I was very tired at the end, the struggling to even shower sounds extreme. I would speak to your midwife and tell her how you are feeling.

Or phone hospital and tell them. I can assure you they deal with much more mundane queries... I know someone that phoned triage bcos they had heartburn!

Thanks everyone, feeling a bit better now, got up and had a shower and even made it over to PILs for a cooked dinner. Seems now insomnia is back, so everything has righted itself!

Little dude is still moving round lots but after your replies I was a bit more concerned I called the general midwifery unit number I had. They were pretty dismissive and if I'm honest made me feel totally stupid for calling because his movements were still ok, so now I feel like I made a fuss over nothing and it has made me really worry about the level of support I'm going to get during labour if I find it really difficult Sad. Boo.

Ah well, at least I will have MN for support! Thanks again.
