I got my bfp last week and am very excited but have had previous mcs :( and am naturally very worried and just wondered when the earliest I could have a scan to see if everything is oK?

Ive heard that its not safe to have an early scan and they would normally only do it when required

Does anyone know if its safe to have an early scan for example at 6 weeks and what could be seen at that stage?

Firstly congratulations!

I have also had 3 mcs and am now 13 weeks with a healthy pregnancy.

I would advise a minimum of 7 weeks before a first scan as a heart beat should definitely be there by then. Also if you are like me, I was worried sick by that point. This time I was scanned at 7 & 9 weeks then 12 last week. Last time a scan at 7 weeks showed no heart beat & empty sac. Personally I prefer to know this sooner rather than later.

Given you have had 3 mcs already, you could ask for referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic, and also push hard for early scans (if not already offered them).

I wish you the very best of luck! FX

thank you so much carrotcake - yes I think I will go for a 7 week scan as that sounds very good advice

I too would prefer to know as soon as I can and I think your scans of 7, 9 and 12 sound ideal - fingers crossed I can get there

its such a tough thing when you've already had mcs - Im so sorry to hear about your losses and Im so pleased its going well for you now :)

Re symptoms I am worried that my symptoms have all disappeared and Im really scared as this was not good for me last time

Would you say that your symptoms have been coming and going? I started off wirh slight dizziness, sore boobs, very mild nausea and cramping and I now have nothing so am really worried about that

any advice on this gratefully received xx

I only took clexane up to 12 weeks but I don't have a clotting disorder, it is supposed to be cytoprotective for the placental cells so helps with implantation. I think if you have a diagnosed clotting disorder you have to take it throughout pregnancy.
I did my own injections and was not given any support at all in doing so - the pharmacy sent me on my merry way with a load of syringes and needles. Taking advice from other ladies on here, what worked for me was

  1. Ice the area before and after injecting with a bag of peas or similar
  2. Expel the air from the syringe before injecting or you get massive bruising (the instructions do specifically tell you not to do this though)
  3. Stretch the skin out and insert the needle at a 45 degree angle, inject slowly so the clexane gets a chance to disperse gradually.
  4. Ice again after injecting.
Doing that transformed it from a massive 3 inch bruise that took weeks to fade, to nothing or very tiny 2mm bruises at the injection site. You do get used to doing it.

thanks so much for that baking - that's really helpful
I have had some injections by the GP and have got the most enormous bruises ever :( didn't realise I had to take it for the whole pg though - I will be black and blue all over :(

gd advice re expelling the air first - maybe the gp didnt do that hence the colossal bruises

just wondered which pg vitamins you took? I bought a whole load of the pregnacare vits and discovered they have vit k which I can't have as they clot the blood but there are very few pg vits that don't contain vit k

Could you recommend one without k in it?
many thanks x

I just take the Sainsbury's own brand pregnancy with omega 3 vits, which do contain vit K. I don't have a clotting issue.
I don't know enough about it to advise, but when we treat dogs (I'm a vet) with poor clotting with vit K we are using massive doses, and there is not much in pregnancy vits. I'd check with your doctor whether the levels are enough to cause concern or not.

thanks - that's good advice
I will do

Chocolatemolehill, I had never heard that about steroids! Suddenly my complete lack of nausea in first trimester makes me wonder if it's down to my daily does of steroids. Thanks for the info Smile

If the vit K is a problem can't you just take folic acid on it's own?
