Hi guys. I'm 9 and 3, and am constantly hungry! Is this normal? I'm worried as I know your calorie intake shouldn't increase until the 2nd trimester.

Ive tried eating porridge with a banana in the morning but was hungry again at half 9. I have healthy snacks through the day but nothing seems to fill me up. I eat and either am hungry right away or within an hour!

So... Could something be wrong? Any suggestions?

Totally normal! If your body is telling you to eat more then do so, I certainly needed to and didn't start gaining pregnancy weight until 15/16 weeks despite eating about 2500-3000 cals a day throughout the first trimester!

AnnaBanana i've been the same since week 6.. i think it's the lack of booze and hangovers!!
I've gained way too much weight (i'm only 11 weeks and have gained 10 lbs!!) but better to be like this than too nauseous to eat IMO. I'm determined in my second trimester to let things settle down though and stop giving in to the hunger all the time.

just make sure youre drinking 2-3 litres of water a day- that might stave off the hunger somewhat..

Same here. i'm 8+5 (and a healthy weight) and have been hungry since the get go. i have been trying to eat healthy snacks but seem to be eating this + cake + carbs. it doesn't help that i'm knackered and grumpy which makes me feel like eating more! to be honest i always eat more in the dark and cold anyway so i'm not worrying that much and considering I'm not drinking alcohol the calories should even itself out! Not sure if have put on anything as im too scared to way myself... i will deal with the consequences in a year or so!

I thought the lack of wine would save me calories too lucy but it doesnt appear to be the case, i'm gaining weight like i never have before. Carbs + cake here too. Lots of fruit and good stuff too though- lots of virtually everything! But hey, as longa s our babies are healthy that's the main thing. My sister couldnt even keep her folic acid tablet down at my gestation, so i count myself lucky really.

i do worry though that all the sugar in the cakes will be bad for the baby.

I was possibly a little underweight when I got pregnant with my first and the first sign for me was eating and hunger. Your body is working hard, so give it what it needs. I also got 24/7 sickness til 7 months, which only went away when I ate!

Listen to your body - it really does know what its doing and not eating/ worrying about being big - you're supposed to get big! I went from a size 8-10 to nit being able to haul mothercare biggest jeans over my thighs. I had a huge baby as well. I was back to size 8- 10 within 3 months of my cs, bf and walking with the pram. And lounging on the sofa admiring my pfb.

Drink loads of water. I ate huge full English breakfast and frosties whilst waiting, sandwiches all morning, cooked lunch, more home made soup maybe, home for a cheese roll, sleep for 2 hours, wake up and eat roast lamb etc whilst eating cheese rolls as it was cooking.

Dh was Shock I also cried if the fridge wasn't bursting with food at all times.

Definitely normal. In early pregnancy I was ravenous constantly and just needed to eat! Now I'm 34 weeks and can hardly eat anything without feeling all squished up Grin

AnnaBanana25 · 27/11/2013 17:03

Aww thanks guys! I feel so much better now. Ive been very hormonal and crying over food too, I think maybe its just a sign my body needs food to keep things going! Such a relief to hear I'm not the only one. Screw it then, I'm going to have dinner early!

Do have dinner early!! and then have a bowl of bran flakes or something an hour later, this has been my pattern. And then Ryvita with cheese around 9pm. Pure gluttony, and guilt free at that :)

I got pregnant on my honeymoon and had spent 3 months prior to the wedding on a carb freeze so it's such a joy to now go on a guilt free carb binge! or as my hubbie is calling it, 'Project Carbocide'.. mind you, he's gaining a few lbs himself in sympathy so cant talk:)

Rockchick1984 · 27/11/2013 18:02

Oh yeah, DH has gained weight both of my pregnancies too, so I don't feel as bad Grin

AnnaBanana25 · 27/11/2013 18:10

Yes... Good call... Feed myself and the man simultaneously!

But uggghhh now that I've had dinner, I feel nauseous! It's never ending!!

Dinner early and then supper! Cheese on toast.. Whatever. Don't diet though. Your body needs what it needs to create your baby and get you ready for birth and bf.

My Mw asked me if I got any exercise:) - I used to be a total gym bunny- and in all seriousness I said the corridor between the kitchen and lounge was quite long, with a little step:)

I once went to a maternity yoga thing and just watched, eating my cheese roll, marvelling at the nimbleness of the other mums. 6 months before I was running 3k cross country in less than 15 minutes.

Plus, i was so big I couldn't put my own pants on. The bending down...I did walk to work though. Very slowly. Until dh couldn't stand it and drove me, whilst I ate:)

I went from being nauseous everyday all day and as soon as I hit 9 weeks pregnant I wasn't nauseous anymore just more hungrier stomach is an empty feeling all day no matter how much I eat so I'm wondering is everything okay
