How many hours sleep in 3rd trimester?

How many hours are you lot sleeping the 3rd trimester?

This week (34weeks today) my energy has suddenly plummeted. For example Monday was a rather busy day after a lazy weekend - I went to bed at midnight, got up on Tuesday at 11(!!), I then went into town for a lazy breakfast in a café, went to boots to buy a few things, and then went home (I live a 5 minute walk from town). I then slept for 2-3 hours as I was absolutely shattered.

Please say other people are finding being out of the house as equally exhausting! I'd be quite happy to spend the rest of the pregnancy in bed!

I'm going to sound a total grump saying this, but enjoy it whilst you can. I was like that in my first pregnancy, but you don't get to do it if you have another and you don't get to do it with a baby. Just roll with it. If I had my time again I'd just sleep from the moment I went on mat leave until the day I went into labour, interspersed with a bit of light telly watching.

Ha...what's sleep? Sleep 2hrs at a time at night, often uncomfy, not yet mastered napping in the day. Basically my answer is NEVER ENOUGH!

Everything Penguin says!!

penguin Unfortunately I'm a student and have quite a few essays to get finished before this baby comes - I feel like I'm never going to get them finished when I can only write 100 words at one time!
quack - i do wake up in the night, i find myself wondering into the kitchen half asleep for more gaviscon, but I'm easily asleep once i've had it again.

Another grump here! Relish the spare time you do have once essays done/ the fact you can choose when to work on them?! My dcs don't let me choose when to feed them, dress them, help them on the loo, put them to bed..... Relentless! Do love it though Smile I remember mat leave before dc1, it was lovely and peaceful! Good luck with the work op! Hope you do well with the essays. I'm also 34 weeks and just found out iron too low, maybe worth re check? Could explain tiredness. Also I find if I've had a couple busy days it kind of catches up with me teatime the next day even if I've had a quieter day, seems normal to get energy in fits and starts this late in preg and for around now sleep is always going downhill!

Never, ever enough.

I am in bed for 8pm every single night. Asleep for 9pm. Awake for a wee every 2 hours. Heartburn every time I lay down. Then the baby gets hiccups. Then I am hungry. Or thirsty. Which sets off the heartburn. Then DP breathes on me. Or I wakes myself up snoring.

A mid afternoon 20 mins power nap is essential. And I prefer 2 hours!

Second trimester I found I was sleeping really well. In bed by half past nine or ten every night, and sleeping like a log. Now that I'm starting the third trimester it's changing, mainly because I have to get up to pee! I'm also starting to get really warm and uncomfortable as well. I get really tired patches during the day, on and off. I'm assuming the baby's going through a growth spurt, or something.

Thisisfreakingmeout · 27/11/2013 08:35

Bed at 11, up at 1, 2.30, 4 & 5.30 for the loo, up at 7.20 for work. Home at 7.30, cook, eat and clean up, try to relax for an hour. Sadly no naps available!

People keep saying the sleep thing is training for baby and I can't help thinking that without a 12 hour day at work on top my tiredness wouldn't quite be the same.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 27/11/2013 12:54

I sleep from 10.30pm until 12am, awake until about 2.30am sleep until 4 am and then I'm up. So about 5 hours in total, I can't sleep. I have SPD and chronic heartburn. I would murder a nap during the day but my two and a half year old DS wouldn't give me the chance.

I also have to get up to pee so often I'm kind of surprised that I'm not dangerously dehydrated.

I'm 38+3 weeks and so tired during the day but dare not sleep in the day as at night as soon as i have to get up to pee/have Gaviscon i can't get back to sleep no matter what til it starts to get light and never thought laying in bed could be so uncomfortable! I dont know how many hours I don't sleep but my advice is sleep when you can/feel like it!

WhisperMen · 27/11/2013 14:37

37 weeks here and I sleep okay at night, get up to pee every few hours but can usually get back to sleep again after. Doesn't matter if I have 2 hours or 9 hours sleep though I am still shattered by 3pm and have to have a nap. Pregnancy is hard work, you need to remember even when we are sat on the sofa our bodies are working hard growing a person, you never get a rest from it.

quackojuliet · 27/11/2013 17:17

Good point Whisper. One thing that is so draining about pregnancy tiredness is its not like you can get rid of it by resting/sleeping as you would usually. Batteries are constantly being drained rather than ever keeping their charge, if you will!
