it's water retention isn't it? which means I should drink more? and do I need to eat more or less salt to help with cramp? (am 8 months preg)

can't remember anything these days.

yep, water retention most likely,

I love dthe day when I looked at my feet and could finally see the veins and ligaments again!!

janeggybee · 13/07/2006 17:57

i dont mean to sound dramatic but have you mentioned it to midwife?? this coupled with other factors can be signs of pre-eclampsia. it probably isnt but just playing devils advocate...

PrettyCandles · 13/07/2006 18:02

It's generally water retention. At this stage it's always woirth mentioning to the m/w, but it's nothing to worry about as long as your bp is OK. Other signs of bp going up are face swelling, pain under ribcage, visual disturbances like flashing lights. A good (if not at all pleasing) way to help the swelling go down is to put on a pair of supportive trainers and go for a walk.

IIRC it's not salt for cramp, but potassium, and eating banans helps. But I'm really not sure IIRC.

Sovbernow, how on earth, at 8m pg, do you sit with your feet above your head, without lying on your back and struggling to breathe as a result? I never mastered that position!

SenoraPostrophe · 13/07/2006 19:31

thanks all.

would very much rather not mention anything to the midwife (who is possibly the least sympathetic medical professional i've ever met). but hey ho.

legs above head - that is a good excuse for hogging the setteee if ever I heard one!

its calcium and potassium for cramps so have a banana and a glass of milk.

bigroundbelly · 13/07/2006 20:00

concerned about you not trusting your m/wife. this is not ideal as she will be playing a rather active role in a very intimate activity for you. is she part of a team or is it always her you see???

SenoraPostrophe · 13/07/2006 20:03

ah bananas and milk i can do.

brb: no she won't because this is spain and the midwife I see for my antenatal appointments is not the midwife who'll deliver me (not even in theory). although the last one who did deliver me was about 18 and kept telling me to stop shouting . you lot giving birth in the uk don't know you're born!

Poor, poor you! I am really suffering in this heat and i'm only 5 months, well nearly. Deffo, legs higher than head if I remember rightly. My Dr has told me to eat lots of Gazpacho and drink lots of Aquarius, I can cope with that and I haven't even got puffy ankles, yet

SenoraPostrophe · 13/07/2006 20:10

oh good idea. i've been trying to make the stuff for 6 years now - still haven't got it right!

I am almost seriously considering coming to marbella for a few weeks around due time actually. have just discovered that the miscarriage rate for amnio at local hosp is 1:100 - that is really low right? don't need amnio but worry about the people doing it. don't usually panic like this!

how's your pregancy going then apart from the heat thing?

I think panic is normal, I was offered an amnio because I'm geriatric, 35! im not having one. I'm panicing about no gas and air. i have had blood pressure problems from the beginning and i've only just got used to the tablets. On a more positive note, i decided against going private and my care has been great. I can't believe how many people are involved. I'm sure all will be fine but at least you know Marbella isn't too far away

SenoraPostrophe · 14/07/2006 21:12

admittedly I've never had gas and air, but I survived without it!

2nd babies are a doddle you know. it's just all the bleedin testing beforehand that's getting to me...
