Braxton hicks or ptl?.. 33 weeks

I'm 33 weeks with dc2 and having lots of contractions today, painful rather than uncomfortable, but not so bad I can't talk through them... also back pain (but suffer with this anyway!)
Unsure whether it's Braxton hicks and I'm being overly anxious or pre-term labour...
DP is away in Australia, dd is staying with my mum tonight to give me a little rest...
Advice please.. I don't want to call the hospital and look a right ninny Blush when it turns out to be nothing!

Ring the labour ward and see what they say - no one on here will be able to tell you which it is!

I'd call the labour ward to be on the safe side. If they think they need to, they'll get you in to be monitored. It's probably just really strong BH -- sometimes mine are really quite strong and uncomfortable, but you can't be too careful.

I was hoping hundreds if ppl would say "I have loads of Braxton hicks, which can be quite painful but all is fine Grin Grin "
... why does being pregnant turn you into a crazy person?!
I'd advise anyone else to do the same, but apprehensive about calling, I don't know why!! Blush

Call them, it makes no sense at all to sit at home worrying about it. Labour wards are busy places and used to dealing with everything & anything after a phone call so either they'll be able to tell you it's fine and therefore reassure you, they'll tell you to keep an eye on it and wait and ring them if you're still concerned or they'll tell you to come in. Non of these things are wasting anybody's time. They wouldn't tell someone to come in without good reason and they'd much rather be able to look at someone quickly and send them home again than not hear from someone, leave it too late and then have to deal with a last minute panic. It's always better safe than sorry where pregnancy is concerned.

I did have painful contractions a couple of weeks ago (so at 32 weeks), and I ignored them until they went away. It took about 48 hours. I would have gone to hospital had they become regular, but having also had exactly the same thing at 22 weeks and been hospitalised for 24 hours, I had a feeling this time would be the same and stop after a while.

So yeah, I'm not the best person to ask because I ignored mine and they stopped :o
