I packed a small bag expecting to be there just the one night and was there 3 nights in the end. My dp, DM, and dmil were bringing me things every visiting time!
So for any future babies I will certainly prepare for a longer stay.

I found the frozen condoms really worked. The unit I was in had them in the freezer. The Aloe Vera lube was the best on my stitches!

SuperLovefuzz · 23/11/2013 18:41

Thanks gummi!

Bumpiemalumpie · 23/11/2013 20:58

Thanks all, I am going to need a significantly bigger bag!! Love the condom ideas, I am having a bit of split bum pain TMI at the moment, do you think they would help with that???

What about clothes for the baby? should I get newborn or do you think it is worth just taking 0-3mths?

I would get vv cheap set of newborn vests /babygros (tesco white ones) then if you have a small baby - you can send for more if needed.
Ds grew out of newborn stuff within a week so I have 3 babygros and 5 vests (and this one will be wearing 0-3 rolled up if needed)

I think that if in doubt (and you/DP can carry it) take everything. It's not like it's the North Pole, either DP will be able to get something for you or hospital will have whatever you need.

Even if hate nighties pack one for after the birth, I only packed pjs which didn't work too well when ended up with a catheter! Had to send emergency text to my mum to buy a couple the next day.

Also disposable pants were useless, even if they fit pre birth are a nightmare afterwards, cheapo big cotton pants are much better.

Lj8893 · 24/11/2013 03:42

With regards to baby clothes sizes I would take a selection of sizes.
I was worried I didn't have enough 0-3m packed but my baby (7lb12 at birth) has only just outgrew her newborn clothes now at 4 weeks and is still slightly too small for 0-3m.

I packed a little change bag with just a couple of nappies, wipes, vest, sleep suit, then a bigger bag of baby stuff which I left in the car in case of longer stay.

I'd second food! Hospital food was awful and in my case, the breakfast was served in the day room and you were just told to go and get it. I was Few hours post section at this point so couldn't easily make the journey. Was very glad of a cereal bar at this point!

Also didn't use dressing gown on post natal ward. It's so flippin hot!!

caitlinsurrey · 26/11/2013 13:56

omg some ppl are taking sooooo many things? are you moving in? haha

jammiecat · 26/11/2013 14:41

One to add for labour bag is some sugary drinks (I had some caprisun pouches). Midwife was concerned about my blood sugar levels as hadn't eaten and couldn't face food but could drink.

Artyparty · 26/11/2013 17:28

A bag of food for birth partners....it was a last minute decision but DH and DS really appreciated cereal bars, snacks, drinks etc as they did a 24 hour shift .... I didn't notice at all and only got hungry afterwards.
The other less obvious one is flip flops rather than slippers - you can shower in them & more hygienic in hospital where floors can be riddled with all sorts on a mat ward Shock

Bumpiemalumpie · 29/11/2013 07:12

Wow, remembering to buy a trailer. Flip flops sound helful , did anyone take glucose tabs??

Definitely cash- either for parking (unless you don't have time!) or the shop/canteen. Also, pack a change of clothes. My DD was early so only had a change of knickers. My clothes were covered in blood and had to leave hospital wearing ripped leggings and my DH's much too small rain jacket!

Oh, and phone charger.

42andcounting · 29/11/2013 11:25

Flip flops! My feet & ankles swelled horribly from being on a drip & they were the only thing I could get on for the first two weeks. Also good for the shower - remember, every woman using that shower is bleeding down below Blush
