20 weeks today but not felt movement

I'm 20 weeks pg with my first and haven't yet felt baby move. I had scan earlier this week and saw baby move but freaked out I haven't felt anything. Plus people keep asking / implying I should have done.
Any advice / reassurance?

This is quite normal with your first, I didn't feel anything with my first until around the 24 week mark.

You tend to feel it a lot earlier with the second as your stomach muscles have been stretched.

I didn't feel anything until 23 weeks with my first. Now 34 weeks and I wish I could get a break from it!
Are you (sorry to be personal): tallish/on the well upholstered side? Both are factors in not feeling movement so early (I am both). Also, do you know where your placenta is lying? Mine is anterior, which blocks some movement.

Hey Humpty, I'm 5"6 and a size 10. Have a sizeable bump but no obvious movement felt yet...

Don't worry, fion. I'm expecting DC3 and never felt movement before 23 weeks with any of my babies.

I was worried I hadn't felt then last night no mistaking it. Least you know the baby is moving from the scan. The sonographer said something about me having a high placenter so I'll only feel movement in the sides, for now! It's an amazing feeling, but everyone has told me I'll get sick of the kicking & the feet on ribs!

Writerwannabe83 · 23/11/2013 11:46

I was told that for first time mothers movement isn't really expected until 23-24 weeks.

I was 22 weeks yesterday with my first and although I first felt weird sensations when I was about 19 weeks it is only over the last few days that I have been able to say there is definite wriggling and kicking going on. It is absolutely constant!! Your time will come, don't worry Smile

Anterior Placentas also contribute to not feeling as much movement as it can sometimes act as a cushion to the movements x

Sammi1986 · 23/11/2013 14:16

Lmao at "well upholstered"! I'm 6ft and very very well upholstered, so noting yet. 18+4

Mondayschild78 · 24/11/2013 05:22

I was 24 weeks with the first and 22 weeks with the second. I wouldn't worry yet Smile

Do you know if you have an anterior placenta? If so this could cushion movements as others have said. I'm normally a size 10 and 5"3 and i didn't feel anything til 26 weeks because of the anterior placenta!

Even if you have a posterior placenta i've heard that 20 weeks is still early to feel movements on your first baby. Try not to stress - although i know it's hard when people keep asking you!x

I also wondered if you might have anterior placenta? It does mean you feel less movement - I had this with ds1 and didn't feel anything until 21wks but he more than made up for this in the later weeks Grin
