Low amniotic fluid?

Anyone with any experience of this? Does it make a difference? The sonographer didn't mention it but it saw it in my scan notes. I'm already due to have extra growth scans at 26 and 30 weeks.

Hello. I had low amniotic fluid and my baby was breech. Apparently the two go together as there is less room to move. I only found out the fluid was low because he was breech though. I don't know how likely it is that your baby would be breech. I had no problems with the pregnancy but had an ELCS so don't know if there are any birth issues.

I measured small for dates at midwife checks, so was sent for a scan. I had low fluid levels. It meant extra scans and at the end I had to go to hospital every other day for monitoring (being strapped up to a heart rate monitor to keep an eye on baby).

At one of my consultant meetings, I was left in the room while he popped to see another consultant about something and there was a chart on the wall - my fluid levels were way off the bottom of the chart.

In the end it just meant that when my waters went, there wasn't much to go. I went into labour spontaneously at 36+3 - they were going to induce me due to low fluid at 37 originally.

I don't know if the fluid was the reason for early(ish) labour as I had normal levels for DD2 and I went into labour at the same stage.

Thanks I will make sure they check it at my growth scans. I just wish they would explain these things when they out them in your notes

Much the same story as 2kids, lots if scans and monitoring for low fluid and small for dates.

Went into spontaneous labour at 39 weeks 12 hrs before I was due to be induced.

DD was 6lb 2oz, she is now a strapping size 12, 5"6 fifth teen year old.

In fact I had just as small a bump with DD2 (but non panicking MWs). She was born at home, 39+ 5 and also only 6lb6. My maternity jeans never fitted with her either, so I suspect she didn't have a Great Lake either.

I think I'm going to give them a ring tomorrow and ask them about it. Thanks ladies Smile

Yes, ring and ask.
Trouble is I think it's one of those things that can mean something and can mean nothing and all they can do is watch and monitor.

What medics fail to understand is how stressful all the monitoring is for parents to be.

Actually, I suspect bright doctors, and certainly good MWs do know. But they also know they haven't the time to have long chats about possible out comes and statistics when no one really understands all the links between fluid levels, placental function, birth weight, early spontaneous labour or when to induce.

Here's hoping in 15 years you get a better answer than I did and Good Luck
