Reduced movement & really worried

I'm just over 22 weeks and today I've not really felt much movement Confused dh doesn't seem worried and has just said 'stop worrying its nonsense that you should feel movement every day' so bloody frustrating!!! I don't want to call the hospital if it's nothing but I know that normally when I go to bed, and lay flat my baby has a little wriggle around. Should I see how it goes tonight and if still no movement then phone in the morning? I don't want to be over reacting though Hmm

Phone, definitely. They won't mind at all and will likely ask you to go in and get checked out. If DP won't take you then get a taxi. Better to be safe

Hi, have a ice cold drink like a coke and lie on your side that normally gets them going. If you are worried phone your midwife in the morning. Fx

Pancakeflipper · 20/11/2013 22:41

If you are worried, you phone tomorrow.

I didn't feel anything until past 22weeks with my first, so don't worry about it tonight, just get a check to reassure yourself tomorrow.

BigArea · 20/11/2013 22:44

I don't see what you've got to lose by phoning now - there will be a MW on duty you can speak to who will tell you what to do. Good luck OP

sonlypuppyfat · 20/11/2013 22:44

I second the icy drink that usually gives them a jump!

LittleOldWineDrinker · 20/11/2013 22:44

If you are worried then go get checked out. The midwives will only be too happy to put your mind at rest. Honestly, as mine said to me 'we're paid to be here anyway and if mum is concerned then that's enough of a concern'.

Mim78 · 20/11/2013 22:44

You should phone if you are feeling worried. This is what they advise you to do and no one will mind if it is nothing. It will put your mind at rest if nothing else.

Probably there is nothing wrong - I'm sure the movement I felt at 22 weeks was more sporadic than it is now (27 weeks). However, you should still phone and get checked out if they advise you to as it's really important to be on the safe side.

Who do I ring? I've got about 8 different phone numbers Blush

They seem very reluctant to help because of how early into my pregnancy I am Sad if I don't feel anything within the next hour I should call back where I can either go straight in just to check on baby's heartbeat, or I can be booked in for an appointment tomorrow. I'm probably worrying over nothing but because it's my first I don't know what I should be experiencing :-/

Go and get the heartbeat checked out at the out of hours GP?

Writerwannabe83 · 20/11/2013 23:34

Do you mean that you have been feeling your baby move a lot recently (i.e the last week or so) but you haven't felt much movement today specifically?

Or do you mean that you haven't really been feeling much movement at all yet despite being 22 weeks?

When I saw my Consultant at 20 weeks we discussed movements and she said that for first time mums (which I think you are) they don't expect regular movements until about 23 weeks anyway. Were you told where you placenta is sitting as if it is an anterior placenta this will also affect how well you feel movements and is completely normal.

I saw a midwife a few days ago and she said that at my stage in pregnancy (just under 22 weeks) it is very rare for a woman to feel movements unless she is lying down. She said that until they hit 24-25 weeks gestation the baby generally can't be felt moving by the woman if she is standing up or sitting down.

Obviously some women feel movements a lot earlier (especially when it isn't their first pregnancy) but that they only worry about movements in first pregnancies if they fall outside the scope of the information I gave above.

I don't know if this helps at all....

3bunnies · 20/11/2013 23:35

Do try to get monitored. If baby has never been particularly active it probably isn't an issue -dd2 barely moved once or twice a day snd then it was just a wiggle. ds however had always been fairly active until 39wks when he seemed to give up moving. They monitored him, hr was fine but as I was small for dates they scanned him and found his fluid was low. I was induced early and he arrived safe and sound. Trust your instincts.

K8eee · 20/11/2013 23:41

Seems like the little bugger is moving now I've got into bed. Obviously didn't like the sofa or our giant bean bag Hmm

Writer, I've been feeling gently movement when still for a couple of weeks, but today hardly anything. Midwife on the phone said exactly what you did, and if by midnightish I hadn't felt anything to phone back. Never have I wanted to feel my insides move Grin

I'm glad baby is on the move and I hope you feel more reassured now. I'm heading off to bed too (I've got to wake the husband up first though as he wants to stay up through the night watch the Cricket, weirdo) and I'm hoping my little one starts wriggling too, I like that reassurance that he's ok. Night night Smile

Good news obviously getting you used to getting through life on his/her terms! They come with an inbuilt sensor which goes off as soon as you snuggle into your bed, lasts for years!
