I'm on my third pregnancy, with all of them, I have had sensitive teeth, bleeding guns and tooth loss/ breaking. I don't know if it's coincidence but it's only been when I'm pregnant or breastfeeding. And for the past three and a half years I have.

Currently experiencing immense toothache Confused

Its a very common symptom - have you been to the dentist about it? Corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash helped me a lot!

Cariad007 · 20/11/2013 10:23

Go to the dentist - good thing is that it's free for pregnant women!

I had a scale and polish last week and the dentist said I need a filling and also another one threatening Sad Ive craved coca cola and sweets which probably hasnt helped but she advised me to drink fizzy drinks through a straw so they dont swill around my teeth. She wouldnt do the filling until after the baby is born (I'm 20 weeks) the other bugger is that I can't get in with an NHS dentist at the moment as they are all full round here so had to pay for it. Scared of dentists! :-(

Been to the dentist. Won't do much as I'm pregnant 30 weeks and think I'll need a route canal Shock

Corsadyl is so pricy Hmm

They can prescribe corsadyl. My teeth are horrendous during and just after pregnancy, my dentist prescribes me high fluoride toothpaste straightaway and sees me every 3 months.

I'm 33+6 and just about to go to the dentist for a two-stage filing due to teeth grinding during pregnancy. I've basically ground my teeth so much at night that I lost a big bit of tooth :-(

I've had a mouth guard fitted, but I seem to take it out during the night.

The dentist said teeth grinding is quite common in pregnant women. I hope I stop once baby arrives otherwise i'll be toothless in a few years!

Cupcake11 · 20/11/2013 13:53

Happy to report no problems as yet (17+2) but I went for a check up the other day and my dentist said he always says for every baby you loose a tooth - said whilst chuckling away! Hmm

littleraysofsunshine · 20/11/2013 14:10

They prescribed me high fluoride toothpaste and a crappy mouth wash. Will ask for Corsadyl x

Hmm I know plenty of people who've had babies and not lost a single tooth!

Firstly you can have dental treatment in pregnancy. No exceptions. It's up to you to decide, I always give my patients the pros and cons of it and delaying it etc etc.

Secondly, pregnancy is renowned for increasing bleeding in gums, this can easily be controlled by good oral hygiene etc (nb corsodyl mouthwash is a two week fix and not a long term treatment) you shouldn't get more decay when you're pregnant, decay is only down to sugar and plaque so unless you're ingesting sugar several times a day then you won't get decay.

Sensitivity is very much linked to the health of your gums.

OP, corsodyl negates the effects of fluoride...

Mrsmorton · 20/11/2013 19:48

That's interesting cupcake is your dentist over 100 years old? It's complete bollocks of course.

littleraysofsunshine · 21/11/2013 16:45

Ok.

I've only ever had problems whilst being pregnant. This is my third time now.

Or it may just generally be the fact I have sensitive teeth then ultra sensitive in pregnancy.
