Is it normal not to feel pregnant?

First posting, as been very sperstitious about saying too much too early (good Christian upbringing!) I am now supposedly 11 weeks pregnant (due in early Feb) but apart from being shattered haven't noticed any difference. Occasionally queasy but that normally means hungry! Hubby reckons my breasts are bigger though, trust him to notice. My first scan is in a week and a half and I'm really nervous in case its all a false alarm. Anyone else feel this way or should I just be grateful my breakfast stays down!

I didnt feel preg 1st time till about 24 weeks!! No changes in my body or anything except bigger boobs.
2nd time, I was huge right from the word go, but still didnt really feel any different.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 12/07/2006 09:54

I was like you. Up until I saw the little guy squirming around in there I was SURE they were going to say 'sorry there's nothing there your test was wrong'
And I was having major morning sickness at the time. Eventually it does sink in. DS is nearly 10 months now, so I figure it'll start sinking in soon....

mawbroon · 12/07/2006 10:47

I "felt" pregnant in the very early weeks and like you, just before my 12 week scan, I either stopped noticing that I felt pg or did actually stop feeling pg. So much so that I did a pg test the night before my scan . So you're not alone CathyL and the evidence of my not feeling pregnant is sitting on my knee feeding

SSSandy · 12/07/2006 10:51

Think it's luck

I had constipation

coppertop · 12/07/2006 10:57

When I had my 12wk scan during my latest pregnancy, when I first saw the screen my thought process went along the lines of:

"Thank god there's actually something there! Hurray there's only one baby! Oh, I really AM pregnant!"

And that was my 3rd pregnancy.

Iklboo · 12/07/2006 11:01

I didn't feel pg until the baby started jigging around - about 23-24 weeks or so. I knew I was because of the scans, but it didn't really sink in till I felt him move for the first time (during Batman Begins as I recall)

DumbledoresGirl · 12/07/2006 11:04

CathyL - morning sickness and other symptoms are not obligatory in pregnancy! I have had 4 children and felt the same as you ("this can't be for real"). I was forever checking the state of my boobs, rushing to the loo in the early days when I thought my period had finally come, etc. I think the only thing you can do is trust in the lack of a period. But my you are in for a treat when your scan comes! It is the greatest thing in the world, seeing your baby on the scan, and you will walk around with a big smile on your lips for days afterwards, congratulating yourself on being so clever as to be able to make a perfect human being, just like that. The way I felt, you would have thought I had been the first person to do it!

2labs · 12/07/2006 11:07

I didn't really have any symptoms and could hardly believe it when I saw the baby on the screen at the 12wk scan and had to stop myself asking 'Are you sure that's actually me?' Like they would have put up a picture of someone else's uterus for a larf.

ComeOVeneer · 12/07/2006 11:07

I have a dd (4) and ds (18 months) running around in the garden at this very minute, and both times I was exactly how you described. Had a period of total exhaustion in the early stages but until a bump showed up no other signs of being pregnant. Just thank your lucky stars tbh (I had a friend who had to hover over the toilet for 9 months with the worst morning sickness ever).

tessasmum · 12/07/2006 11:11

Didn't even know I was pregnant with DD till I was 15 weeks so feeling pregnant is not compulsory.
Agree with DG about scan though, the most amazing thing ever, apart from actually holding the wriggly little thing for the first time.
Hope you carry on feeling like this, I did through 2 pregnancies but kept quiet about it as it really annoys those who are suffering.

Enjoy

YellowFeathers · 12/07/2006 11:13

With my first I had every symptom under the sun. With this one I had nothing just a bit of queasyness when I was hungry.

It is very odd to think theres a little baby in there and you feel totally normal!

Congratulations.

Blackduck · 12/07/2006 11:21

I wasn't sick, and really didn't feel that different, except for feeling tired. Didn't like the smell of smoked garlic, but that was about it! (Nobody even guessed I was - didn't tell anyone till nearly 5th month...)

CathyL · 14/07/2006 08:29

Thank you all, thats really reassuring to know
The books spend so long talking about coping with nausea they don't say how to cope without it!
Still looking forward to scan though.
Had a big emotional collapse all over hubby so my hormones must be under pressure! kind of reassuring but not convinced he agrees!
Thanks again

i didnt feel pregnant in the first few months, i had to keep reminding myself!! then when the scan was fast approaching i started to panic that there wouldnt be a baby or they couldnt find anything etc!! only natural feelings i think!

blueshoes · 14/07/2006 09:46

CathyL, never felt pregnant for all my 3 pregnancies, particularly in first trimester. At least in second and third, there is the bump and movements. Otherwise, but for the +ve test, I wouldn't have believed it!

Booboobedoo · 14/07/2006 13:24

FWIW Cathy, I'm hugely envious of you.

I'm 6+3, and I've been completely disabled by constant nausea for the last four days. I literally can't do anything until about 8pm, when it eases off a bit.

I completely understand why you're worried - I'm sure I'd be exactly the same - but do try to enjoy your good luck! I'm sure your baby will be perfect

Nemo1977 · 14/07/2006 13:28

hi cathy..like you I dont feel pg at all this time. Am now 14wks and it is passing in a surreal way. With both ds and dd I had lots of different symptoms but this time nothing at all.

brimfull · 14/07/2006 13:30

I felt completely normal when I was pregnant in the early stages, except for a fuller feeling in my lady's garden when we had sex.

I was so tense at my scan that I burst into tears with relief when I saw the baby's heartbeat.

sandradee · 14/07/2006 13:31

Do your breasts hurt? the only thing that was different is that they were quite painful for the first few months. Other than that nothing - no morning sickness or anything.

I think it is different for different people.

fredly · 14/07/2006 14:01

I didn't feel a thing apart from tiredness for the first weeks. In fact I didn't want to consider myself pregnant until I had seen him/her on the screen ! I had a fantastic pregnancy, wish you the same.

CathyL · 24/07/2006 14:55

Just got back from first scan, there really is someting there, little heart beating and everything, so reassured, definately worth waiting for. Thanks for the support

Despite two and a half months of vigorous all day puking, big knockers, and the fact that I can now, at 21 weeks, feel the baby, I still don't feel pregnant. I have seen pictures. I don't have periods. I know this isn't something I used to do, but a) I just feel like this is what my body is up to at the moment and it's not that different from normal now I'm not puking and b) I can in no way translate this into giving birth to a live human person that I will be related to/responsible for FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. Even when I say that to myself in a threatening sing-songy way it doesn't frighten me, I'm like 'wooooh, big deal'. I just can't make myself believe it.

100Vicki · 03/08/2006 13:48

I knew I was pg straight away with my ds. I was tired all the time, suffered from sickness, sore boobs - the lot! However, I'm now pg with #2 and the only symptom I had to start with was a missed period. I said to dh that I would do a test but that I was sure I wasn't pg. The test said positive and I was so shocked. I didn't have any other clues to my pregnancy so was a bit anxious about going for the scan at 12 weeks, like you are. It was a relief when the image of my baby came on the screen.

I think that all pregnancies are different. Try not to stress too much about this. I feel so lucky that I'm not puking all the time like I did with my ds. I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about.

pituca · 08/08/2006 11:26

hi all
llike you I dont feel pregnant that is why I am looking at my bump every day and it is now I can't deny I am as it is growing big pretty fast.
I feel hungry a lot from the start and very tired but I am diabetic and can have those symptoms mildly anyway when my sugar levels are not compensated.
I love being pregnant, I always thought it would be hard work but it is great and i feel ever so well. I want to stay pregnant longer!! lol ( I bet I will change my mind in the last few weeks when I am unconfortably big!)
I am not enjoying having sore breasts, how long is that going to last? I am now 17 weeks!

blueshoes · 08/08/2006 11:48

Normal for me, for all of mine.
