At what point will baby be stuck in transverse position?

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and at every appointment my baby has been in the transverse position. My other two were all over the place to start with but had started to settle at this point in the head down position. I'm slightly worried that she's going to stay where she is and ill end up with a section.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Never, I hope- am 36+5 and still transverse. Off to try moxibustion now to get the stubborn thing to shift. Wish me luck!!

Try not to worry yet. My DS1 was breech until 34 weeks and then transverse at 36 but he turned in time for the birth at 39 weeks.

There's still time! Good luck.

Stupid question,,,,,,, whats the difference between being breech and being transverse?? Blush

gemmaj66 · 18/11/2013 14:13

I'd never heard of it until it happened to me but with a transverse lie the baby is kind of horizontal! So the head might be over by your left hip and the feet over on the right.

Hi I'm not pregnant at the the moment in fact DD us four but I remember being worried about her nit turning, she was transverse at my last mudwife appointment (38 weeks?) But turned head down by the time I went into labour at 40 +6.

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 18/11/2013 14:19

I was transverse at 32 weeks both times and both times they moved by themselves and I delivered naturally. Don't worry yet Smile

My dd was transverse till 38 weeks, she turned it took her about 30 mins and was not the most pleasantest of experiences, but then she did weigh over 10lbs. As for difference between breech and transverse, I believe breech is feet at the bottom and head under your ribs, transverse is baby , sideways, I believe my baby is transverse at the moment as I have a very long horizontal bump!!

callamia · 18/11/2013 17:45

Mine was transverse until about 32 weeks. He was then back to back and finally right way round at 38 weeks. Don't worry, there's still lots of space to manoeuvre!

misskatamari · 18/11/2013 18:07

I'm 29 weeks and baby was transverse at last mw appointment. She said at this stage they still move around all over the place anyway so don't worry.

One of mine was transverse on the day she was born, very overdue, I kept upright all day and she was born normally hth

enjoyingscience · 18/11/2013 18:13

I wanted to ask this exact question today - I'm 31 weeks and baby has been stubbornly sideways for weeks, in what feels like a feet up position (so I'm getting very kicked in my right rib all fucking day)

DS was head down from very early, and fully engaged by 33 weeks, so this is a new, and quite disconcerting experience. Fingers crossed that theres time and space for a flip!

Posters who have had experience of this, were you admitted to hospital when they found your baby was transverse? Am back for a scan at 37+2, and the consultant said if s/he hasn't shifted, they would want to admit me because of the risk of cord prolapse if I went into labour "on the outside". Would just have to sit and twiddled thumbs on the antenatal unit until i got to 39 weeks, when I would have a c section.

Obviously is up to me, and am weighing up the risk of early labour against the downside of 1-2 weeks in hospital, away from DS and not getting any decent food or sleep. Would be interested in others' experience. Thanks!
