Are you itching on your hands and feet? If so they're probably thinking cholestasis Hope they give you some answers quickly

ThermoLobster · 16/11/2013 11:00

It is called Obstetric Cholestatis. Good that they are testing you for it, as if you have it, they will put a plan in place to keep your baby safe. I had eczema for the first time when I was pregnant, so it might just be hormones mean it is presenting differently from normal.

Yea hands and feet are itchy. I also only got exchema wen I was pregnant with dc1 but not half as bad as how it is this time I'm hoping its nothing. I'm not thinking about anything else apart from getting me results bk. What sort of complications can it cause for me and the baby? X

The reason it is taken so seriously and a care plan needs to be put in place is because it can cause a baby to be stillborn, but wait to see what the tests say before panicking. If you are far enough along to monitor movements, call your midwife if there is any change at all and good luck with your results, hope they come back clear.

the stillbirth risks are really very small so don't panic yourself!
in some countries it's really common and the usual practice is to induce at 37 weeks or so because of the apparent stillbirth risk.
there are some threads on mumsnet with people who've had it - search and you should find these reassuring.

ThermoLobster · 16/11/2013 14:10

Sorry - didn't mean to make you feel bad but at the same time, worth you knowing what the risk is. I sadly have a friend who lost their baby to this condition, and two other friends who have had emergency situations because of it, although thankfully had happy endings.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2013 14:26

Dont worry. If it is oc there is medication to help control it. The drs will keep an eye on liver function by blood tests. The risk is really when it is not diagnosed.

5madthings · 16/11/2013 14:52

i have been tested for oc in all five of my oregnancies as i have eczema and it gets really itchy esp on my hands and feet, odd as i dont get it on my hands and feet when not preg!

the test came back negative each time.

my friend had oc tho but has had two healthy boys, both born at home at about 38-39wks.

they will moniter you carefully if it is oc and maybe. induce early if necessary

Thanks all for the reasurrance. Tryin to stay sane till I get my results. X
