I am 28 weeks and have been insulin dependant since 16 weeks. The injections and tablets I can handle but I am really starting to struggle with the no sugar. What do you eat as a low carb/low sugar treat??

Sugar free jelly is my favourite thing to have when needing something sweet.
I'm 31 weeks and and insulin dependent.
I keep having hypos though so get to have sweet treats that way.

How do you know if you are having a hypo tarka?

Would quark, sweetener and options hot choc powder mixed together be ok as a low carb/sugar treat?

I second the sugar free jelly- I can't wait to get some mmmmmmmnomnomnom

I normally get them after a nap. I'll wake up hot and sweaty and feeling all shakey and awful. When I'll test my blood sugar will be at least below 4. The lowest it has been was 2.2 and I felt like I was dying. I think it's relative though - if you are used to having high blood sugar it doesn't have to get that low before you start to feel "funny".

angel delight do a sugar free version too in strawberry and chocolate. Haven't eaten it since I was little but that and sugar free jelly is getting me through! Plus Holland and Barrett do some nice fruity sugar free sweets.

Almonds are a fab snack - when you're on a low sugar diet they start tasting sweet!
I think you can get ones coated in raw cocoa so still no sugar but you get a choc hit.
Quark is good blended with raspberries and a bit of stevia to sweeten it up.

Thank you for the suggestions, I will give them all a try Grin

I am type one and also 29w preg, sugar free jelly is my saviour!! For when I'm starving but need to keep sugars down. Angel delight type stuff is made with milk so you'd need to account for that, nuts, carrot/cucumber sticks and dips if you pick carefully are low carb/sugar. Be careful of sugar free sweets/diabetic sweets as they can have a laxative effectBlush will keep thinking!

I used to have a small bit of hummus with carrots /celery or some cheese & pickle on crackers, or a handful of nuts. Or a yoghurt.
