I'm only 8 weeks...so totally wiped out all the time...I have no other symptoms so I know I'm lucky that I don't need to cope with the sickness etc, but this tiredness is almost unbearable.

Don't want to drink much tea or coffee even though I'm craving caffeine...does anyone have any advice of what would perk me up? I'm having early nights every night but often get woken by my 2.5yr ds...I try to sleep whenever I can but it really makes no difference. I remember this from my pg with ds, I used to actually fall asleep at my desk in work!

Would iron help? Does the doctor have to prescribe it or can I just go and buy it myself? Any help gratefully received!

TIA xx

I was exactly the same until i was about 12 -13 weeks. I was exhausted all the time no matter how much sleep i got. I was given iron tablets as im aenemic but they were perscribed by the doctor. Im sure you'd be able to just go and buy some but i would give your mw a ring first to check.
Also eat plenty green veg if you can as this has loads of iron in...sorry cant be more help

I completely feel for you as I was there a few weeks ago. Am now 18wks and have a 2 3/4yr old who is really active. The frist trimester was a killer as I was so so tired. I would go to your gp and say how you are feeling, I wasn't anaemic so she said try drinking lots of water and also bananas can give you a boost. It helped a bit and has got better now.
Just wanted to give you some hope that it will get better...

does your ds still nap during the day? or else get some good dvds or cbeebies--this is not a time to feel guilty about using this sort of thing for a bit of peace now and again.

Being utterly shattered in early pg is sooo normal - but having a 2yo to look after as well is the icing on the cake. No real advice, I'm afraid, you just have to get through it. Napping as much as poss, even 20m catnaps helps. Drinking lots of water (have a bottle by you and sip frequently, rather than big drinks from time to time) and nibbling on starchy snacks such as banans and oatcakes helps too.

You can get iron yourself, but, apart from taking a supplement such as Pregnacare, I wouldn't do it at the moment. Too much iron is also not a good thing. In a month or so you will have your booking-in appointment and your iron level will be checked then.

Have you tried porridge for breakfast? I was advised to eat 'oaty' things for energy and they release slowly through the day. It worked for me and I have a 3yr old as well!
