but never had that before and not having the wheezing. Im trying to concentrate and relax , but its not going , Ive been like this since this morning. I cant seem to sit or lay or stand. Im getting panicky with it.

My face and lips were a little swollen yesterday after a nap on the sofa , not sure if linked. I do have MW appt tommorow , but not sure what to do to aleviate things. Im 35+4 wks. Anyone else having this ??

I'd be inclined to call the midwife and ask her advice. Especially if it's starting to upset you. IIRC swollen face can be one of the signs of rising blood pressure, so it's probalby worth looking into sooner rather than later.

Call her - she won't mind, it's what she's there for.

Agree with pc, call Midwife. But don't get panicky, it constricts the chest and makes it even harder to breathe ( already a bit squished in there, with the baby taking up space your lungs use dto have!)

Could you be hyperventilating if you're geting stressed by it? Try the paper bag trick - I don't know whether it has any effect on asthma, but it's wonderful for breathing problems brought on by stress. Hold a paper bag over your mouth and nose and breathe in and out of it normally for a couple of minutes. It triggers your body to breathe slowly and evenly without you making any conscious effort, and is a very good way of reducing your stress level.

The happened to me towards the end of my pregnancy with dd the breathing thing, its really horrible because you find it hard to breath & then you start to panic & it makes it worse, not sure why i had it. I never got the swollen face etc though so if i was you i would call your midwife to check what it could be as they may want to check you & baby over.

Was just trying to eat some food. Was diagnosed with ameamia 2 weeks ago , appt tommorow is to check were HG levels are at, as been on ferrous sulphate.

No one seems to be answering at ante natal unit at hospital , goes to message and says not to leave message.

Do you have a number for the midwives? If not, call the labour ward. That's not scaremongering, BTW. In both my pregnancies I've been told to use the labour ward as an A&E for any pregnancy related problems.

melsy · 10/07/2006 14:07

No have no real direct number for a midwife , they work in team at hospital unit. I do have labour ward number , but I know they are extremely madly busy , as my senior midwife carer has been taken off her personal case work (like mine) and asked to work down in the wards.

phone main hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to mw's....

heavenis · 10/07/2006 14:10

Please get your mid wife or doctor to check you out. You could be starting with pre-eclampsia I had this and did find it hard to breath on occasions. It might not be related but please get things checked.
You haven't eaten anything you don't normally have you.

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 14:13

Try calling the switchboard first then, but make srue to explain that you don't want to be put throgh to ante-natal. But if you have no joy there, then do call the labour ward. You won't have been wasting their time as you will have tried to contact other midwives first, and you are one of the people it's their job to look after.

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 16:53

How are you feeling, melsy?

heavenis · 10/07/2006 17:28

Melsy, hope I've not frightened you and I hope you have managed to see someone.

melsy · 10/07/2006 17:35

ahh thanx for asking pretty candles , very thoughtful.

I havent phoned as spent last few hrs before dd got home from nursury laying on sofa and trying to distract myself. I think I may just be over anxious and overwhelmed ,and got myself a bit worked up, as there are so many family difficulties going on right now.

I dont think it would be pre-eclampsia, as have had low BP all the way through, but I suppose you dont know if it could swing the other way.

Thankfully I have an appt in the morning anyway.

May be it should have been a thread on seriously panicking and stressing .

Take it easy. Look after yourself.

PrettyCandles · 10/07/2006 18:59

The sofa is seriously under-rated as a pregnancy essential.
